As a Senior Technician - Food Science youll be at the heart of our laboratoriesenabling high-quality research supporting teaching and ensuring our facilities operate safely efficiently and to the highest standards.
Based within the Te Kura Mātai Matū School of Chemical Sciences youll provide specialist technical support across food science teaching and research laboratories. Working alongside academic staff researchers and students youll coordinate shared resources maintain complex instrumentation and help deliver outstanding lab experiences.
This is a varied hands-on role where no two days are the sameperfect for someone who enjoys problem-solving collaboration and making things run seamlessly behind the scenes.
Ngā Haepapa Matua Key Responsibilities (not limited too):
- Support and coordinate laboratory operations across multiple research groups
- Maintain and optimise specialist equipment (e.g. HPLC spray dryers rheometers)
- Provide training and guidance to staff and students on equipment and lab practices
- Manage hazardous substances and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards
- Oversee lab consumables procurement and equipment lifecycle management
- Contribute to teaching delivery including preparation and demonstration of lab activities
- Help foster a safe inclusive and high-performing laboratory environment

This is a full-time (37.5 hrs per week) permanent role
The remuneration range is $73400 - $86403 per annum dependent on skills and experience

Were looking for someone who brings both technical expertise and a collaborative mindset.
You will bring:
- A Bachelors degree in chemistry Food Science Biology or a related field
- Experience working in laboratory environments (research industry or tertiary)
- Confidence working with complex scientific equipment and processes
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
- The ability to communicate clearly and support a diverse range of people
- The physical capability to safely carry out aspects of the role including lifting and moving equipment and materials (up to 25kg) with appropriate support and equipment where required
