Job Summary

Title: Instructional Coach at Tecumseh South Elementary

Pay:Instructional Coaches are paid based on their step and class on the USD 450 Salary Schedule for teachers. Instructional coaches are also paid for an extra 12 days of employment each year.

Reports to: Associate Superintendent or Curriculum Director and Building Principal

Purpose and Objectives of the Position: To provide ongoing job embedded professional development training and support for mentors new teachers and experienced teachers; to improve instruction of new and experienced teachers; to assist in the planning delivery and evaluation of school and district improvement initiatives; to support the use of instructional technology in the classroom and to improve student achievement through improved instruction.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide ongoing job-embedded professional development and support for teachers including classroom-based demonstrations collaborative and one-to-one support for the implementation of the district literacy program.
  • Facilitate teacher inquiry and related professional development.
  • Model discuss and cultivate best teaching practices.
  • Work with building and central office administrators to plan deliver and evaluate staff professional development.
  • Conduct building/classroom visits for new teachers as assigned.
  • Follow-up visits with reflective dialogue and feedback.
  • Document observations trainings and feedback discussions.
  • Analyze data on student performance to determine teacher effectiveness as well as to determine further staff development needs.
  • Conduct building and staff trainings related to school improvement efforts.
  • Attend and participate as requested in trainings related to curriculum development writing of assessments standards training effective instructional practices differentiation professional development mentoring and cognitive/instructional coaching.
  • Expand and maintain a library of resource materials that may be loaned to building staff members
  • Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal Associate Superintendent or Curriculum Director.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Five years teaching experience (three years in district).
  • Masters Degree in subject area curriculum/instruction or administration.
  • Knowledge of and experience with staff development.
  • Knowledge of teaching performance standards.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional practices.
  • Knowledge of curriculum standards.
  • Ability to analyze data.
  • Ability to integrate technology with instruction.
  • Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  • Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
  • Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential.

Terms of Employment:

  • 202 day contract based upon a teachers contract with addendum to account for the extra days required. Some days may not be contiguous with the regular school year calendar.
  • As a general guideline: four and one-half days per week are devoted to classroom visits while one-half day per week is devoted to collaboration with other coaches planning and professional training/development
  • Hours of work will vary by assignment and equivalent to regular teacher duty day. (hours to be adjusted when professional development is provided before or after scheduled hours)
  • There will be a maximum of five years allotted for the term. Coaches may reapply.
  • The number of years in the position may be extended so that there will be a balance of new and veteran coaches.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the USD 450 Board of Educations policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel and this job description.
