Job Summary
Job Title: Pastoral Support Assistant
Grade: Pay Band 5 SCP 6-9
Start date: ASAP May 2026
Fernhurst Junior School is looking for an excellent Pastoral Support Assistant to work with both families and pupils across the school. The post will include supporting pupils with additional learning and behavioural needs alongside their parents and under the direction of class teachers. The successful candidate will be able to support all stakeholders under the guidance of the Inclusion Manager SLT and classroom teachers to ensure Fernhurst Junior continues to be a fully inclusive school.
We are a Local Authority Junior school with dedicated and supportive staff and a diverse student population. The school has a strong presence in the community and a good reputation with parents. The Governors are looking to appoint a candidate who is hardworking and willing to participate in whole school life.
The successful candidate will have:
A good standard of general education to at least A level standard
English and Maths to GCSE grade A-C or equivalent
Relevant experience or qualifications in learning support or family support. NVQ or HLTA would be desirable.
An ability to develop a rapport with adults and pupils.
A willingness to undertake further training
The role will involve:
Supporting pupils with various needs in and out of the classroom and in interventions under the direction of the class teacher and Senior Leadership team. Sign posting families to other agencies for relevant support. Completing inter agency referrals and on occasion representing the school at meetings. This is a wide and varied role (please see attached Job Description) and internal training will be given.
