Job Summary

Due to retirement two Investigation Officer vacancies have arisen at the OF3 level to conduct investigations into Army Service Complaints.

These posts are available under Voluntary Employment ex Regular Reserves (VeRR) terms of service and are suited to someone seeking the flexibility of part-time work for up to 90 days pa potentially as part of a portfolio career. The initial contract will be for 12 months but can be extended in accordance with Reserve Land Forces Regulations up to the age of 65. Maximum age at time of acceptance is 60 years old.

The posts sit within the Service Complaints Investigation Team (SCIT) which is the internal investigative branch of the Army Service Complaints Secretariat based in Andover. Working primarily from home Investigation Officers conduct impartial factual investigations of Service Complaints submitted by serving or retired Service Personnel as directed and in accordance with JSP 831 and other extant policy.

Allocation of investigations will be based on factors including experience and availability of the Investigation Officer taking into account the nature of the complaint. On occasion there may be a requirement to work collaboratively with other SCIT investigators.

The Investigation Officer will be required to maintain a comprehensive record of all interviews discussions instructions issued and actions taken in the course of an investigation and to provide the Case Manager and Decision Body with regular updates on the progress of the investigation including any identifiable change to the scope of the investigation. Each investigation should be completed within 30 working days (6 weeks) at the end of which they must submit a comprehensive investigation report to enable an informed decision on the complaint.
