JOB DESCRIPTION
Position and secure steel bars or mesh in concrete forms to reinforce concrete using a variety of fasteners rod-bending machines and power hand tools.
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Determine number sizes shapes and locations of reinforcing rods from blueprints sketches or oral instructions
- Select and place rod in forms spacing and fastening them together
- Cut rods to required lengths using metal shears hacksaws bar cutters or acetylene torches
- Bend steel rods with hand tools and rod-bending machines
- Cut and fit wire mesh fabric using hooked rods and position fabric or mesh in concrete to reinforce the it
- May weld reinforcing bars together
- Ensure that all reinforcing material is in proper position to receive its intended structural load
- Place blocks under rebar to hold the bars off the deck when reinforcing floors
QUALIFICATIONS
- One (1) to four (4) years of experience as an Apprentice or Rodbuster
- NCCER Certification is preferred but not required
- Pre-employment craft test drug screen physical background check and completion of safety training is a condition of employment
- Must complete work accurately and follow all safety rules
- Must be familiar with relevant hand and power tools
- Able to work well in a team environment
- Organized and self-motivated
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must comply with companys drug and alcohol abuse policy
- Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders scaffolding stairways etc
- Stoop kneel crouch crawl or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers vessels excavations etc.)
- Able to carry 50 lbs. of tool and/or materials.
- It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Check with your project supervisor or project safety director.
- Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt concrete asphalt mud gravel etc.)
