San Francisco University High School (UHS) is seeking an exceptional leader to guide our Girls Basketball program as our next Program Director and Varsity Head Coach. UHS is a coeducational independent day school located in San Franciscos Pacific Heights neighborhood serving 540 students in grades 912.
About the Role
As the Program Director and Varsity Head Coach for Girls Basketball you will serve as the strategic and cultural leader of the entire program overseeing all levels from Varsity to Junior Varsity. This role extends beyond game strategy and practice planning it is about building a cohesive program developing student-athletes and fostering a culture rooted in accountability growth and belonging.

What Youll Do
Lead the Program
Establish and implement a clear vision for the Girls Basketball program ensuring alignment in philosophy player development and culture across all levels.
Design & Deliver High-Quality Practices
Plan and lead structured engaging practices that develop fundamental skills basketball IQ team concepts and game execution in a progressive manner.
Build a Strong Team Culture
Foster a culture of accountability resilience and respect. Promote sportsmanship leadership and a growth mindset among all student-athletes.
Develop and Support Coaching Staff
Mentor assistant and JV coaches to ensure alignment across the program. Promote collaboration communication and shared standards.
Ensure Compliance & Player Safety
Adhere to and enforce all BCL NCS and NFHS rules along with school policies. Prioritize the health and safety of all student-athletes.
Collaborate Across the Department
Work closely with athletic trainers strength & conditioning staff and facilities. Maintain clear and professional communication with families and represent UHS Athletics with integrity.
Champion the Mission of UHS Athletics
Embed the schools mission and values into all aspects of the program emphasizing the role of athletics in personal growth and education.
Create an Engaging Experience
Build a program where student-athletes find joy purpose and pride in their experience both in practice and competition.
Who You Are
Experienced Coach
Prior coaching experience at the high school collegiate or club level is required. Collegiate playing experience is preferred.
Program Builder
Demonstrated ability to lead organize and grow a program including staff oversight and program development.
Basketball Knowledge
Strong understanding of NFHS rules offensive and defensive systems skill development and in-game adjustments.
Student-Centered Leader
Ability to connect with and support high school athletes. Strong communicator who models leadership accountability and integrity.
Certified
CPR and First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain) along with CIF coaching certification.
Personal Attributes
Positive energetic and organized. Committed to inclusion collaboration and continuous improvement. Professional responsive and team-oriented.
Position Compensation Details
This is a year-round coaching position. Compensation ranges from $12000 $16000 during the season and $35/HR during the off-season for scheduling meeting and other program management duties. Max of 10 hours per week.
