Your role

CBC Saskatchewan is looking for a Senior Producer to lead our digital and social strategy. This is a permanent full-time onsite position based in either Regina or Saskatoon..

We are looking for a dynamic journalist who has experience growing digital and social audiences in a meaningful way. You have an understanding of how audiences consume content across platforms. You understand analyzing digital metrics to make editorial decisions about news coverage.

As part of the newsroom leadership you will work collaboratively with content teams to bring their plans to life. Together you will further the work to build closer connections with local communities to strengthen our journalism through critical thinking and to build an inclusive and supportive work culture.

You will contribute to the daily running of a multi-platform newsroom including overseeing all aspects of content development vetting and editing stories and handling the myriad of time sensitive issues that crop up throughout the day.

Reporting to the managing editor the successful candidate will

  • contribute knowledgeably to the development of the digital strategy

  • skillfully implement the digital and video strategy in the newsroom

  • creatively direct digital storytelling

  • Help lead newsroom changes to reflect strengthen and be accountable to our audience staff and the wider community we serve.

  • Supportively lead the digital team through a spirit of collaboration and experimentation

  • be a strong and inclusive leader in the newsroom.

In this role you will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair balanced accurate thoughtful immediate and resonate with the communities we serve.

Youre innovative and will champion new story treatments and new workflows and will help create a diverse range of content on our digital and social platforms. Youre not afraid to take creative risks and you inspire others to do the same.

As the industry shifts local news and community storytelling is more important than ever. You understand the diverse and changing population in Saskatchewan and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our content. You will further our original storytelling and ensure we are talking about what matters most to people throughout Saskatchewan..

Qualifications - External

As Senior Producer of Digital you will bring the following skills and experience to the CBC:

  • Strong journalistic skills with excellent news judgment and the ability to work effectively under 24/7 online newsroom deadline pressure.

  • Substantial experience vetting editing fact-checking and packaging digital news content.

  • Superior leadership coaching and mentoring skills with the demonstrated ability to motivate teams and encourage creativity.

  • Ability to assign manage staff coordinate with other departments in a productive manner and mediate disputes as they arise.

  • High-level knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to journalism.

  • Extensive knowledge of the issues and diverse communities of Saskatchewan.

  • Ability to manage large volumes of fast-moving information and ensure material is communicated appropriately.

  • Experience developing and executing strategies including setting objectives tracking results and reporting on outcomes.

  • Experience in audience targeting search engine optimization digital analytics and social media engagement and metrics.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong team player.

  • Advanced skills in production presentation and analytics tools including content management systems and social media platforms.

  • University degree or equivalent.

  • Minimum seven years recent experience in a multi-platform news environment.
