We have an opportunity for a Technician to join the Te Kura Mātai Hinengaro The School of Psychology providing specialist support to the Experimental Analysis of Behaviour Research Unit (EABRU). This role is hands-on and will support animal care welfare and behavioural research activities with a particular focus on avian species. - Provide high-quality animal husbandry health monitoring and welfare support
- Support the implementation of enrichment programmes and evidence-based welfare practices
- Assist researchers and students with animal handling care and research activities
- Maintain accurate records and support animal ethics and compliance requirements
- Ensure laboratory and facility spaces are safe well-maintained and fit for purpose
- Contribute to training and induction of facility users
- Support procurement inventory management and general operational requirements

This is a part-time (30 hrs per week) permanent role across Monday to Friday
The remuneration range is $63600 - $79300 (pro-rated) per annum dependent on skills and experience

We are seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented individual with a strong commitment to animal welfare and safe laboratory practices.
You will have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in animal husbandry animal welfare veterinary nursing or a related field
- Experience in animal handling and husbandry (experience with birds is advantageous)
- Knowledge of animal health welfare and ethical practice
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Confidence working with systems record-keeping and compliance processes
Previous experience in a research or laboratory environment will be beneficial but is not essential
