Action for Healthy Communities Society of Alberta (AHC) is an Edmonton-based registered charity working with individuals families and grass roots community groups to build their capacities and communities. AHC works with all population groups including immigrants and refugees but particularly with equity-deserving individuals and communities to build their capacity and help them successfully integrate into society.
In 2025 AHC supported around 25000 individuals through its collaborative programs and capacity-building strategies including Settlement and Integration Employment and Entrepreneurship Literacy and Skills Development Children Youth and Families support and volunteer opportunities. AHCs supports are available in the Greeter Edmonton Area and Northern Alberta Small Towns in collaboration with hundreds of partners and stakeholders. AHC is governed by a diverse group of engaged professionals representing various sectors and areas aligning with its vision mission and mandate.
The Board of Directors of AHC are looking for volunteer Board Members who are driven by the belief that all individuals including newcomers with their rich and diverse backgrounds are critical to Canadas economic growth. The AHC Board works with the Executive Director to ensure the organizations effective governance and meets monthly with a summer off every year. Occasionally Board Members represent AHC at various forums and attend various community activities or events.
Being a policy board the Board members are responsible for effective governance by setting the organizations strategic direction limitations and accountability. Other critical areas of responsibility include policy development organizational financial due diligence and risk assessment and management. Board Members may also participate in committee work and are expected to volunteer 2 to 3 hours a month.
Length of Term: 2 years further extendable for 2 years
Currently AHC Board is looking to fill four (4) vacant board member positions with experience in one or more of the following areas:
Lawyers preferably practicing employment or corporate law
Accounting and Financial Management preferably with a CPA designation
Community and economic development newcomers settlement and integration
IT-related background and experience
Any other fields relevant to AHC vision and mission
