Position Summary
The Elementary Art Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering an engaging visual arts program for students in PreK through 5th grade that nurtures creativity builds artistic skills and supports the overall academic and social development of students.
This teacher creates developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Visual Arts introducing students to diverse artistic techniques media and cultural perspectives. The Art Teacher fosters a classroom environment where students feel safe to explore imagine and express themselves while building foundational artistic skills and confidence.
As a specials teacher at Santa Fe South the Art Teacher independently develops lessons tailored to student needs while collaborating with classroom teachers and campus staff to reinforce core academic skills through creative and meaningful instruction. This role also contributes to the broader school community by supporting school-wide initiatives and helping cultivate a joyful inclusive campus culture.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Develop and implement a standards-aligned visual arts curriculum for PreK5th grade students
- Design engaging lessons that introduce students to a variety of media and techniques such as drawing painting collage sculpture mixed media and digital tools when available
- Provide structured opportunities for students to explore creativity take artistic risks and reflect on their artistic growth
- Adapt instruction to meet the developmental needs of students across multiple grade levels
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to connect art instruction to grade-level academic content when appropriate
- Support school-wide academic initiatives and student intervention efforts when needed
Classroom Environment
- Maintain a safe organized and joyful art classroom that supports diverse learners and encourages creative exploration
- Establish routines and behavioral expectations that promote respect responsibility and a positive learning atmosphere
- Manage art supplies equipment and materials responsibly to ensure proper use and care
Collaboration & Professional Growth
- Collaborate with colleagues instructional coaches and campus staff to support student success
- Actively participate in Santa Fe Souths instructional coaching model and professional learning opportunities
- Contribute to campus initiatives and continuous improvement efforts
School & Community Engagement
- Build strong relationships with students and families through positive communication and engagement
- Participate fully in school responsibilities such as arrival/dismissal supervision lunch/recess duty and campus events
- Coordinate opportunities to showcase student artwork such as art displays exhibitions or school art shows
- Maintain accurate records and fulfill all professional responsibilities with reliability and professionalism
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelors degree from an accredited institution
- Oklahoma teaching certification (or eligibility) in Art Education or Elementary Education
- Commitment to Santa Fe Souths mission and the students and communities we serve
Preferred
- Experience teaching elementary art across multiple grade levels
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate art instruction for young learners
- Experience integrating art with core academic subjects
- Experience working in diverse or high-need school communities
- Demonstrated growth mindset and openness to feedback
