Job Summary

Selection for interview is based on evaluation of complete application file. Hourly rate placement contingent upon verification of related WA public school experience.

This position is included in the classified staff non-supervisory bargaining unit. Union shop requirements and the Collective Bargaining Agreement apply to this position.

Employment contingent upon completion and verification of form information and background check with fee to be paid by applicant.

Pay for contracted classified employees is distributed once/month on the last business day of the month. Pay for employees who work less than full year is spread through August. Questions concerning pay processes may be directed to the Personnel Office.

Eligibility for SEBB medical dental vision life insurance AD&D and LTD if anticipated to reach 630 hours in the school year. Eligibility for retirement based on 3.50 hrs/day or more for 5 or more consecutive months. Optional tax-sheltered annuities: Omni 403(b) and Deferred Compensation Plan. Personal leave vacation leave (260-day employees only) and sick leave prorated based on FTE.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Maintenance Supervisor and Building Administrator

Work Year: July 7 through August 7 Monday through Wednesday 7:30am to 4pm

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor building administrator and/or the Head Custodian participate in the work of keeping school buildings and facilities properly maintained clean and orderly.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • School Custodian experience preferred.
  • Current Washington State Drivers License.
  • Ability to obtain a valid CPR and First Aid card.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clean floors including sweeping scrubbing mopping waxing and polishing. Scrape and refinish floors as required. Operate floor polishers scrubbers and other power equipment as required.
  • Vacuum and shampoo rugs and carpets.
  • Clean walls windows woodwork metal work and fixtures including but not limited to bowls sinks counters shelves drinking fountains blackboards erasers and waste receptacles.
  • Clean furniture; move arrange and adjust furniture as required.
  • Perform basic maintenance as necessary or required. Such maintenance shall include cleaning gutters and roof drains replacing filters painting and minor plumbing electrical and carpentry. Coordinate through the head custodian when additional maintenance assistance or repairs are needed.
  • Clean sidewalks entryways driveways parking and play areas; remove litter leaves and debris from these areas and grounds as necessary or required.
  • Unlock and lock buildings and rooms as necessary; inspect for vandalism as appropriate and report any findings to the head custodian and/or building administrator. Check lighting systems clocks and bells; replace/adjust as necessary or required.
  • Regulate heating ventilation and air conditioning systems as necessary or required.
  • Perform such other duties as from time to time may be assigned.

Language Skills:

Ability to read in English and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present in English information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff students parents and community members.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff and community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

pails and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs

such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as salt

scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color

vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
