Reporting to the Payroll Manager the Payroll Accounting Lead/Supervisor will be responsible for processing company payroll remittances reporting and account reconciliations in a timely and accurate manner while in accordance with company and government policies.

This position is based in Winnipeg or Edmonton office dependent on the selected candidates place of residence.

What You Will Be Working On

  • Review payroll remittances such as union dues employer associations tax authorities workers compensation and benefits verifying accuracy and looking for process improvements.
  • Perform reconciliations on general ledger accounts and prepare entries as required to balance accounts.
  • Support month end / quarter end / year end reporting requirements.
  • Prepare detailed reports of payroll information to internal stakeholders.
  • Interpret collective agreements work with management and unions to ensure compliance and deal with any issues as they arise.
  • Coordinate with the Digital Services team to test and implement payroll system calculations reports automation and enhancements.
  • Leverage and utilize technology to help build efficiencies in payroll processes and reporting of remittances and financial data.
  • Lead the payroll accounting team of administrators which may include delegating reviewing work training and coaching.
  • Actively liaise with staff and management on payroll related inquiries.
  • Maintain and safeguard confidential employee information.

What We Are Looking For

  • Undergraduate degree or Diploma in Business Accounting or a combination of equivalent skills and experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years payroll experience processing the full payroll cycle.
  • PCP designation and experience using an in-house payroll system considered an asset.
  • Completed or working toward a CPA designation considered an asset.
  • Efficient with Excel has data processing skills and can effectively deal with confidential information.
  • Proven track record of process improvements.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills customer service oriented and a team player.
  • Experience leading a team is an asset.
  • Ability to manage a large volume of work and can consistently meet deadlines while ensuring high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to forge grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them.
  • Extra hours may be required occasionally while maintaining work life balance.
  • Strong analytical critical thinking problem-solving skills and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
