Salary: $56314 per annum Step Progression: $56314 to $68515

What youll do

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration the Payroll Coordinator has overall responsibility for ensuring the timely accurate and confidential processing of the Universitys two bi-weekly Payrolls and one Monthly payroll including the submission of all government remittances (in compliance with Canada Revenue Agency and other regulatory reporting requirements). Other responsibilities include preparation of monthly account reconciliations supervision of one staff member (the Payroll Administrator) year-end payroll accruals calendar year-end close/new calendar year preparations and processing T4s. The Payroll Coordinator also provides ongoing policy and procedure recommendations aimed at increasing overall payroll effectiveness and efficiency. Other duties include:

  • the verification preparation entering checking and processing of payroll transactions
  • the reporting analysis and oversight of Records of Employment and CRA remittances online
  • oversees the implementation of changes or upgrades to the payroll module of the Colleague System including new functionality related to web applications for payroll
  • performs other reconciliations or financial analysis as required
  • oversees and participates in responding to requests for information
  • monitors legislative requirements updating the computerized payroll system as necessary

What youll need

Qualifications

Candidates must have a payroll certification through the National Payroll Institute and a minimum of three years of progressive related experience. Completion of a Bachelor of Business Administration/Commerce or a related degree is considered as asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The ideal candidate is a relationship builder who is able to interact with individuals with tact and diplomacy and who has demonstrated strong problem-solving skills. Candidates must have demonstrated experience supervising others. This position requires the individual to have experience conducting financial analysis be a self-starter and have strong organizational and prioritization skills. Candidates must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite with advanced skills in Excel and use of technology to conduct analysis in the most efficient manner. Experience in using business enterprise systems for finance is required. Supporting all of these skills is a strong commitment to excellent customer service.
