DescriptionThe Commercial Operations Director owns the commercial operating model that enables sales performance productivity and revenue growth. This role leads sales planning channel and pricing strategy performance management and commercial execution ensuring that analytics systems and processes translate into clear decisions and measurable outcomes for the sales organisation
Responsibilities1. Develop Customer Channel and Sales Strategy
- Lead creation of customer channel and sales strategies and secure alignment across all stakeholders.
- Ensure continuous communication with Sales Marketing Finance Logistics IT RA/QA and HR.
- Integrate regional and global initiatives into Japan strategy.
2. Sales Force Effectiveness
- Own and lead the endtoend sales planning cycle including AOP territory design segmentation resource allocation incentives and performance targets
- Establish a disciplined performance review cadence that links strategy execution and corrective actions
- Act as a thought partner to sales leadership constructively challenging plans assumptions and tradeoffs
- Drive capability development across the commercial organization.
3. Lead Commercial Excellence & Change Management
- Serve as a key architect for commercial transformation.
- Simplify and optimize dashboards reporting and processes to enhance decision quality and operational efficiency.
4. Budget Leadership
- Identify growth opportunities through market understanding (surveys field visits) and propose strategies to capture them.
- Quantify opportunity size required investment and ROI.
- Manage operations in alignment with approved budgets.
5. Key Channel Business Planning
- Partner with sales teams to gather customer insights and build strategic customer business plans.
- Ensure data quality KPI tracking and regular performance reporting.
- Localize global/regional tools and templates for Japan implementation.
6. Pricing & Revenue Growth Management (RGM)
- Lead pricing strategy promotion planning product/customer mix optimization and revenue growth management.
- Oversee control analysis tracking reporting and process ownership related to pricing.
- Maintain updated competitive pricing intelligence and insights.
- Ensure alignment of net pricing with profitability objectives.
- Implement controls to ensure adherence to SOPs and Global Commercial Standards.
- Develop and execute rollout plans with APAC teams.
- Build expertise in CPM OAP and related approval workflows.
7. Contract Management
- Serve as subjectmatter expert and super user in contract execution and compliance.
- Monitor contract and Direct Trade Policy adherence across customers.
- Identify and transparently report potential greytrade risks locally and regionally.
8. People Leadership (Managers ICs)
- Provide strategic direction and oversight aligned with company policies.
- Develop and elevate team capabilities; introduce new competencies to meet evolving business needs.
- Empower teams through delegation clear expectations and accountability.
- Ensure transparent consistent communication through regular touchpoints.
- Deliver effective and timely performance feedback recognition and corrective actions.
- Lead a complete performance management and development cycle including goal setting feedback and career planning.
9. Strategic Advisory
- Partner closely with the GM and Commercial Directors to deliver deep situational analysis and strategic recommendations to accelerate CVJ growth.
- Commercial systems analytics and SFDC are critical enablers of this role; however success is defined by the quality of decisions planning and commercial outcomes they support.
10. Other Duties
- Lead or support additional projects as assigned.
QualificationsKnowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Strategic mindset with the ability to challenge the status quo.
- Strong business acumen and interpersonal maturity appropriate for senior management.
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage executive leadership on matters of significant impact.
- Strong influencing and collaboration skills across functions and with regional/global counterparts.
- Excellent presentation and stakeholder buyin capabilities.
- Advanced Excel skills for consolidation integration and analysis.
- Ability to extract integrate and translate into actionable insights data from platforms such as SFDC ERP Cognos BI etc.
- High adaptability and proven ability to lead change initiatives.
- Strong commercial operations background (pricing contract management process improvement SOPs commercial systems SFE).
- Solid understanding of performance reporting and financial/budgeting processes.
- Strong people development and influencing skills including leadership of virtual or extended teams.
- English proficiency equivalent to TOEIC 900.
- Passion and ambition to grow as a business leader.
- Ability to be effective in driving strategic priorities through to activation as a member of the Japan leadership and commercial teams as well as with overseas regional and global stakeholders
Work Environment:

- Occasional domestic/ international business trips
Experience:
10 years in management/leadership roles overseeing multiple job areas with teams of 10 people.
10 years of experience in sales analysis sales planning or similar roles in fastpaced competitive markets.
Experience working in Japan for global multinational organizations with regional partnership models.
Proven success managing crossfunctional teams to deliver against objectives and targets.
Experience developing and managing budgets.
Corporate strategy or management consulting experience strongly preferred.
Experience in change management.
Healthcare industry experience preferred particularly in a B2B2C business model.
Sales experience is a plus.
Education:
- Bachelor Degree or above
- Advanced degree especially in science engineering is plus
