Job Description:
Our client is a global mining company. They are seeking a Senior Mine Planning Engineer – Long Term who will be responsible for providing technical mine planning support to the site-based Long-Term Planning team. The role focuses on the development optimisation and continuous improvement of Life of Mine (LOM) plans mine designs and strategic production schedules. This role works closely with site-based technical teams to ensure that plans are practical integrated and aligned with business objectives while supporting the delivery of safe efficient and value-driven mining operations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop maintain and optimise Life of Mine (LOM) plans in alignment with business strategy.
- Prepare and support annual budgets and mid-year forecasts through robust long-term planning inputs.
- Design and optimise underground mine layouts sequencing and extraction strategies.
- Conduct scenario analysis to evaluate alternative mining strategies production profiles and economic outcomes.
- Ensure alignment and integration of planning inputs across Geology Geotechnical Ventilation and Operations teams.
- Support reconciliation processes by analysing variances between planned and actual performance and recommending improvements.
- Provide technical support on strategic initiatives (e.g. paste fill mining method optimisation expansion projects).
- Assist in maintaining and improving mine planning standards tools and methodologies.
- Ensure planning outputs are practical realistic and aligned with operational constraints.
- Collaborate effectively with site-based teams and provide technical guidance where required.
- Demonstrate safe behaviour at all times and comply with the site's standards and procedures in SHEC.
- Promote awareness of SHEC practices and imbed a safety culture.
- Demonstrate effective performance in achieving agreed SHEC goals that support the department site and company standards.
- Report all SHEC incidents.
- Demonstrate leadership in SHEC through personal behaviours and conversations.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- Tertiary qualified mining engineer with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in the mining industry in large underground operations.
- Strong underground mine design scheduling and sequencing capability.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in mine planning software (e.g. Deswik MineSched Datamine or similar).
- Strong report writing and technical documentation skills.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with remote teams.
- Knowledge of long-term mine planning principles and LOM development underground mining methods (preferably sublevel open stoping / long hole open stoping) mine-to-mill integration and value chain optimization cost modelling and economic evaluation of mining scenarios and risk assessment and operational constraint analysis.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in underground hard rock mining with demonstrated experience in long-term planning and mine design. Exposure to budget and forecast planning processes required. Experience with paste fill mining methods and working across multidisciplinary technical teams is advantageous.
- Self-motivated with a high level of interpersonal skills able to communicate effectively with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Valid driver's license required. Professional registration advantageous.
