Mesa Associates Inc. is seeking a skilled Associate Project Manager with substation design expertise to join our Power Delivery team. This role is ideal for someone eager to become more efficient in Project Management who understands the technical and operational demands of utility substation projects and who can confidently assist Project Managers in successfully driving multidisciplinary engineering teams from project initiation through closeout.
You will assist in leading small to medium-scale power delivery design projects ensuring safety quality budget and schedule objectives are consistently achieved while maintaining exceptional client satisfaction. With the full support of our Project Support Office (PSO) youll play a central role in delivering successful outcomes across a program of substation projects. Candidate must be located within 2 hours of Knoxville TN.
What Youll Do
- Project Assistance & Execution
- Assist in leading cross-functional engineering teams in the execution of utility substation design and design-support projects.
- Assist in developing and managing key project planning documents including:
- Project Execution Plans
- Project Initiation Documentation
- Communication Plans
- RFI logs
- Help ensure accountability to scope schedule budget and quality objectives.
- Support and promote that all Mesa business processes and procedures are followed.
- Schedule & Budget Management
- Under the guidance of the Program and/or Project Manager you will assist in monitoring and controlling project schedules and budgets.
- Work with PM to document and manage scope changes affecting cost and timeline.
- Partner with project coordinators schedulers analyst and controllers to help forecast spending accruals and financial performance.
- Support Program Managers/Project Managers in maintaining accurate cost and schedule performance.
- Risk & Issue Management
- Help to identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Assist in tracking assigning and resolving issues to minimize impact.
- Work with PM to ensure accurate and current project status reporting systems.
- Client Coordination
- Communicate effectively with internal teams clients and stakeholders across multiple programs.
- Participate in client meetings take meeting minutes help compose and distribute meeting notes and attend site visits while adhering to all safety requirements.
What You Bring
- Required Qualifications
- Associates degree in engineering Construction Management or related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant project experience including:
- At least 1 year assisting in managing engineering/design projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing power utility substation design projects.
- Working knowledge of PMI standards practices and processes.
- Ability to handle multiple project workloads and stay organized.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word Excel and project scheduling software.
- Working knowledge of corporate accounting practices and business operations.
- Core Competencies
- Ability to interpret and apply scopes of work technical criteria and design requirements.
- Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills.
- Professional presence and stakeholder management capability.
- Proven ability to work with a team and be a team player.
- Understanding of PMI Methodologies and Processes.

Work Environment & Requirements
- Willingness to attend meetings at substation sites and client facilities including occasional travel up to 15-25% to client locations.
- Commitment to following all Mesa and client safety protocols.
- Ability to work effectively with remote and distributed teams.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to travel to client sites as needed to support project alignment and execution
- U.S. Citizenship is required (per 10 C.F.R. Part 810)
