Job Summary
Position Overview
Now hiring CDL-A drivers for a local container drayage position based in Charleston SC. This role offers daily home time steady port freight and consistent weekday scheduling with opportunities for additional weekend income.
Drivers will haul shipping containers between port terminals and local customers in a short-haul high-frequency lane.
Route & Freight Details
- Local runs within a 150-mile radius of Charleston port terminals
- Hiring area includes:
- Charleston
- Summerville
- Mount Pleasant
- Hauling shipping containers on chassis equipment
- Average 20 miles per trip (short-haul multiple turns per day)
- Freight includes:
- Port pickups and deliveries
- Empty container returns
- Mix of:
- Drop & hook
- Live unload
- 100% no-touch freight
Schedule
- Monday Friday
- Typical start time: 5:00 AM
- Company operating hours: 5:00 AM 6:00 PM
- Home daily
- Occasional Saturday work (1x per month)
Pay & Compensation
- Avg Weekly Pay: $1000$1400
- Pay Type: Hourly
Base Pay:
- $25/hour
Additional Pay:
- $5/hour for weekend work
- $10 per hazmat load delivered
- $500 transition bonus (paid on 2nd paycheck)
Equipment & Work Setup
- Day cab trucks
- Manual transmission
- Container chassis trailers
- Trucks governed at 65 mph
- Yard located in North Charleston SC
Requirements
- Valid CDL-A license
- Minimum 3 months of tractor-trailer experience required
- Must have:
- Hazmat endorsement
- TWIC card
- Must be able to pass manual transmission road test
- Must be comfortable with port operations and short-haul runs
Orientation
- Orientation held in North Charleston SC
- $250 orientation pay
- Classes held once per week (Tuesdays only)
