Job Description:
The Student Technology Support Technician assists the HSB Technology Center staff with the installation maintenance and upgrade of technology in classrooms conference rooms and team rooms across the Foster campus. This role works with the Student Technology Project Coordinator to provide support for technology-related projects and also provides support and assistance for various other tasks as assigned by the Technology Support Services Manager. The Technology Center seeks highly motivated individuals who are passionate about technology and demonstrate initiative in providing technology assistance. While prior technical support experience is not required it is beneficial. Comprehensive training will be provided to ensure successful performance of all assigned duties. This position offers hands-on experience working with new instructional collaborative and audio-visual technologies installed throughout academic spaces.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the Student Technology Project Coordinator in the installation configuration and setup of instructional collaborative and support technologies used in classrooms conference rooms and team rooms.
Assist the Technology Support Services Manager with various duties as assigned.
Perform system testing and confirm functionality for various AV spaces as directed.
Assist with troubleshooting a variety of classroom conference room and team room technologies ensuring proper functionality and minimal downtime.
Maintain accurate documentation of completed work equipment installed and any issues that may arise.
Participate in required training sessions assessments and development activities to support key time-sensitive projects.
Required Skills:
Must be a currently enrolled student in good academic standing.
Should have basic knowledge of computer hardware operating systems or audio-visual technology.
Should have good problem-solving interpersonal and communication skills.
Should be detail-focused able to follow verbal and written instructions and follow-through on all assignments.
Should be able to multi-task prioritize and manage time effectively.
Must be able to comply with university policies.
Must be able to lift and move equipment up to 30 pounds and work in confined spaces when needed.
Preferred Skills:
Coursework in Business Administration Communications Computer Science Information Systems Engineering Film & Digital Media Media Management Theatre Design and Technology or related fields.
Familiarity with AV fundamentals (I/Os AV switchers HDMI USBC wireless AV etc.).
Previous experience providing customer or technical support.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in classrooms labs conference rooms and team room environments.
May involve bending lifting and extended periods of walking or standing.
Some tasks may require working in tight spaces or handling cabling/equipment.
Learning & Development Outcomes:
Practical experience with audiovisual technologies and troubleshooting methods.
Enhanced communication and customer service skills in a technical setting.
Familiarity with IT/AV service management workflows and documentation.
Foundational skills supporting advancement to higher-level student or professional IT/AV roles.
