Evaluation Period: Annual performance evaluations if the student works the entire academic year. If the student works one semester the performance evaluation will be completed after that semester
Purpose: Assist the Chemistry Lab Manager in day-to-day tasks.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in setting up/taking down labs including:
- Setting up trays for items and chemicals needed for labs
- Getting out and/or setting up equipment needed for labs
- Cleaning equipment and putting items and chemicals away after a lab is completed
- Help with lab drawer check-in/check-out by giving lab students items as they request them
- Perform weekly tasks such as checking temperatures for some equipment stocking disposable items in the labs etc.
- Wash labware and return items to their proper storage areas (shelves cabinets etc.) after they are dry
- Assist with miscellaneous tasks which may include:
- Helping with chemical and equipment inventories
- Organizing labs the stockroom or the prep room
- Assisting in labs with large student enrollment
- Making up solutions for a lab
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications- Currently enrolled student at Mount St. Joseph University
- Chemistry Biology or Bio-Chemistry major required
- Work-study eligible students preferred
- Demonstrate consistently responsible behavior with chemicals and respect for instruction from stockroom manager and faculty.
- Have the ability to safely set up lab equipment and chemicals.
- Have the ability to follow directions and ask questions when something is not clear before performing a task.
- Have no grades of a D or lower from the immediately previous semester and maintaining a C average at the mid-term of the current semester.
- Have no grades of a C or lower for any classes required for their major.
- Ability to work on own initiative independently and to deadlines
- Well organized punctual and reliable
- The ability to communicate sensitively and tactfully both orally and in writing with individuals at all levels within the University
