M&J is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Senior Construction Inspector to join our team to provide critical quality assurance oversight to ensure construction projects are completed in accordance with contract requirements plans and specifications. This role operates under the general supervision of the Senior Project Engineer and Project Administrator and serves as a key liaison between contractors project teams and government stakeholders.

Responsibilities
M&J Engineering is seeking experienced personnel for Construction Inspector positions. This position is a field related position with respect to Long Island municipal construction projects. Construction Inspector will inspect various aspects construction activities and perform to ensure compliance with the contract provisions. Responsibilities include inspection of daily construction work ensure compliance with contract plans and specifications minimum testing of materials review contractor submittals requests for information and coordinate with the contractor monitor maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) prepare daily inspection reports perform field measurements of pay items provide computations for pay items participate in meetings preparing meeting minutes and follow up action items. And other responsibilities as warranted.
- Inspect and monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents plans specifications and approved submittals
- Maintain accurate field and office records including daily reports field measurements
- Perform quantity computations and verify work completed for payment eligibility
- Observe contractor operations and document field conditions progress and any non-conforming work
- Review and recommend acceptance or rejection of corrective actions for deficient work
- Monitor contractor quality control processes and verify adherence to approved quality control plans
- Prepare detailed reports on project progress work quality and quantities eligible for payment
- Review contractor payment applications proposals and change order requests for accuracy and compliance
- Coordinate construction activities and serve as a primary point of contact for clients and government agencies
- Ensure project documentation complies with agency client and regulatory standards
- Coordinate and/or perform inspections testing and surveying activities
- Lead project meetings including preparation of agendas summaries and documentation
- Conduct constructability reviews and verify design quantities during project development
- Assist with project closeout activities with minimal supervision
- Mentor and oversee junior inspectors and entry-level staff
- Be available for Night Work
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- At least 6 years of experience with Long Island Highway Roadway Stormwater Site Building Waterway or Shoreline Construction Improvement projects.
- NICET Level III or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required
- PE a plus
- ACI Certification
- NETTCP Concrete
- NETTCP HMA Paving
- NETTCP Soils and Aggregate
- ATSSA Traffic Control Technician
- OSHA 10 Hours certification is required. OSHA 30 a plus
- Strong knowledge of heavy highway construction materials methods and procedures
- Proven ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Experience with government-funded infrastructure projects preferred
- Strong organizational documentation and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions
- Proficiency in maintaining detailed records and reports
- Candidate shall be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operators License and auto insurance.
- Candidate must have reliable transportation.
