Eja-Ice Ltd is a renewable energypowered cold chain company providing solar-powered refrigeration infrastructure for fisheries food distribution and medical supply chains across Africa. The company deploys solar cold rooms solar freezers and solar-powered refrigerated logistics solutions to reduce post-harvest losses and enable reliable cold storage in off-grid and underserved communities.
Job Summary
The Chief Technical Officer (CTO) will lead the technical strategy engineering development and technology deployment of Eja-Ices renewable cold chain infrastructure. The CTO will oversee engineering teams responsible for refrigeration systems solar energy systems cold storage facilities and mobile refrigerated transport solutions ensuring scalable efficient and innovative cold chain solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Strategy & Innovation
- Develop and lead the companys technical vision and engineering roadmap.
- Drive innovation in solar-powered refrigeration and cold chain technologies.
- Identify new technologies to improve efficiency reliability and cost-effectiveness of cold storage infrastructure.
Engineering Leadership
- Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams including:
- Refrigeration engineers
- Electrical / solar engineers
- Structural and civil engineers
- Field technicians
- Establish engineering standards design guidelines and operational protocols.
Infrastructure Development
- Oversee the design and deployment of:
- Solar-powered cold rooms
- Cold storage hubs
- Solar-powered freezers
- Mobile refrigeration systems (cooling vans and tricycles)
- Ensure systems operate at required temperatures (e.g. -18C for frozen storage).
Technology Integration
- Oversee integration of IoT monitoring systems digital twins and remote diagnostics for cold chain operations.
- Implement smart monitoring solutions for energy usage temperature control and equipment performance.
Project Delivery
- Ensure timely and cost-effective deployment of cold chain infrastructure.
- Manage engineering budgets procurement and vendor relationships.
- Support expansion of operations across West and East Africa.
Technical Due Diligence & Partnerships
- Provide technical input for investor discussions grant proposals and partnerships.
- Support due diligence processes with impact investors venture capital firms and development finance institutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Renewable Energy Engineering
- Energy Systems Engineering
- Professional engineering certification is an advantage.
Experience
- 812 years experience in engineering leadership roles.
- Experience in renewable energy refrigeration systems or cold chain infrastructure.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams.
