The salary range for this position is $25.65 hourly.

Thurston County Public Works is recruiting for (2) two Seasonal Building & Grounds Specialiststo join our dynamic energetic and innovative Parks & Trails team. The successful candidate will perform landscaping maintenance in county parks trails medians and roundabouts as well as janitorial duties in park restrooms.

***This temporary/seasonal position generally works 40 hours per week; weekend work is required and is anticipated to last six (6) months from the hire date.***

Essential functions may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Constructs alters maintains and repairs a variety of structures and upon area of assignments duties may include but are not limited to plumbing electrical carpentry irrigation systems pruning planting culverts lawns fences trails playground equipment roofs and/or bridges.
  • When assigned operates a variety of equipment which might include hand tools power tools light equipment tractor and other equipment to construct remodel or repair of building landscape and in-ground irrigation systems. Performs basic mechanical repairs and maintenance on hand tools light power equipment and/or vehicles.
  • Participates in planting trees shrubs and flowers and maintains landscaped areas including mowing trimming pruning and fertilizing and weed control. When assigned applies pesticides herbicides and fertilizers.

Essential Personnel:This position is considered to be an essential worker and may be required to work during non-business hours or closures in order to meet operational requirements and needs.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work Environment -Physical exertion required for lifting which may be in excess of 50 lbs. Requires strenuous outdoor work which includes exposure to all weather conditions dust vegetation insects construction equipment and traffic.
  • Schedule Wednesday - Sunday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Workload demands may occasionally require work outside the assigned work hours.
  • Travel Requirements - Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings or trainings.
  • Customer Interactions - Daily interactions via phone and in-person with Thurston County staff and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience working in landscaping horticulture carpentry forestry or other closely related field.
  • Current Washington State Drivers License.

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Experience in grounds and equipment maintenance is desired.
