Student Worker (26-27) Sagan ARC Peer Tutor

Purpose/Objective of the Role:
The Peer Tutor collaborates with students actively engaging in tutoring sessions and demonstrating subject matter expertise in the areas they intend to tutor. The Peer Tutor manages student appointments maintains accurate records and participates in additional academic support duties assigned by the Peer Tutoring coordinators. Possessing strong communication skills patience and empathy the Peer Tutor fosters an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds. The Peer Tutors commitment to academic excellence and fulfillment of tutoring commitments ensures a positive impact on their peers educational journey within the Sagan ARC.
Current Course/Subject Area Needs:
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Offer tutoring sessions and supplemental instruction to students to enhance their understanding of course materials.
- Help students with course concepts problem-solving study strategies and academic skill development.
- Regularly manage appointment availability in Penji and promptly respond to student requests for tutoring sessions.
- Hold down walk-in/study table hours as per the scheduling arrangement.
- Collaborate with students to schedule tutoring appointments based on availability and academic needs.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of tutoring sessions at the time of the appointment.
- Prepare brief notes summarizing the content covered during each tutoring session.
- Initiate regular check-ins with students to monitor their progress and offer additional support as needed or required.
Academic Qualifications:
- Must be in at least their second year at OWU (exceptions made on a case-by-case basis).
- Obtain a recommendation from at least one professor in the tutoring subject.
- Hold at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Demonstrate subject matter expertise in the area(s) they intend to tutor.

- Other Qualifications:
- Participate in a .25 credit tutor training course facilitated by the Sagan ARC for new tutors.
