DescriptionThe Electrician II within the Maintenance and Repairs unit installs operates and maintains electrical systems and equipment for the UT Knoxville Campus. This individual also works as necessary to aid contractors and other crafts and trains craft assistants as needed. This position provides good customer service to internal and external customers and will support electrical needs for events and special occasions on campus.
Responsibilities- Pulling wire and making up panel boards and other electrical equipment
- Bending threading and installing conduit as necessary
- Maintain lighting systems and controls of various types
- Maintain panelboards and switchboards of various types and sizes
- Maintain transformers motors and generators
- Troubleshooting maintaining and installing electrical systems and related components
- Working special events continuing educations and assisting contractors and other crafts
- Studying blueprints taking off materials and picking up materials for projects
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- Education:
- High school diploma or GED
- Vocational or technical training related to industrial electricity
- Experience:
- Technical training in industrial electricity along with two-years experience or four-years experience as a journeyman electrician with no technical training
- Experience bending conduit pulling wire and working on live electrical equipment.
- Experience leading others in the performance of the craft.
- Experience in the use of craft tools and equipment.
- Some training or experience in electronics.
- Knowledge Skills Abilities:
- A good working knowledge of electrical systems.
- The ability to read blueprints and choose materials needed.
- The ability to work on live electrical components when necessary.
- The ability to climb ladders work in confined spaces under adverse conditions and in high places.
- The ability to perform hard physical work for long periods.
- Good hand and eye coordination.
- Mechanical aptitude and good knowledge of industrial electricity.

- Experience with U.T. Physical Plant procedures.
- Experience working within the confines of a large university campus setting.
