Job Summary

Primary Purpose:

Create engaging hands-on learning experiences that help students develop technical and professional skills in the field of automotive technology preparing them for industry certifications (ASEs) employment and lifelong success.

As the instructor launching our brand-new Automotive Technology program at the College Station ISD Career and Technical Education Center you will play a key role in establishing the programs foundationdeveloping curriculum setting up the new automotive shop and lab environment with tools and lifts and recruiting students who are eager to explore careers in automotive service repair and technology.

Qualifications:

Professional Experience Education or Certification:

Applicants may qualify through one of the following routes:

  • Industry experience in automotive services or a related field may be considered in place of a teaching certificate as College Station ISD is a District of Innovation and can issue local certification based on relevant work experience.
  • Or a Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in one of the following areas:
    • Technology Education: Grades 612
    • Trade and Industrial Education: Grades 612 (requires appropriate work approval)
    • Trade and Industrial Education: Grades 812 (requires appropriate work approval)
    • Trade and Industrial Workforce Training: Grades 612 (requires appropriate work approval)
  • Preferred:
    • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications or the ability to obtain them
    • Experience in automotive repair diagnostics or service management

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of automotive technology systems and repair techniques
  • Understanding of current industry tools safety standards and diagnostic procedures
  • Ability to instruct and manage students in both classroom and shop environments
  • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to developing employability skills and a professional work ethic in students
  • Willingness to acquire curriculum and instructional skills through district-provided training
  • Enthusiasm for growing a new CTE program and connecting with local industry partners

Other Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain an organized and safe automotive lab environment with functional lifts tools and workstations
  • Collaborate with local automotive shops dealerships and service centers to provide real-world learning opportunities guest speakers and potential internships
  • Actively recruit and promote the automotive program to potential students and families
  • Manage classroom and lab budgets
  • Maintain equipment in good working order
  • Support student participation in SkillsUSA and other CTE or automotive competitions
    • travel may be necessary to supervise students competing at CTSO contests stipends may be available and may vary depending on sponsor responsibilities

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the districts CTE curriculum and demonstrate written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and abilities.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies materials and equipment for both classroom and shop instruction.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress and adjust instruction based on results.
  • Collaborate with special education staff to modify instruction for students with accommodations as outlined in IEPs.
  • Work with colleagues to determine instructional goals objectives and methods that align with district and industry standards.
  • Supervise student practice in the automotive shop and ensure compliance with all safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate safety and maintenance logs equipment inventories and student training records.
  • Encourage student professionalism responsibility and teamwork.
  • Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of College Station ISD.
  • Create a classroom and lab environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students tools equipment and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials tools and supplies for the automotive program.
  • Communicate regularly with parents students and colleagues regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Participate in staff development to enhance job-related skills and maintain safety and certification standards.
  • Stay informed about current trends technologies and best practices in automotive service and education.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirement and qualification for the position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).

  • CTE: content specific equipment

The employee may spend long hours in intense concentration which requires attention to detail. There are several deadlines associated with this position which may cause significant stress. The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.
