Position Summary

Under general supervision the Engineering Student Intern provides project technical and operational support to the Engineering Department within Power Delivery. Assignments may include engineering analysis data collection field support documentation preparation and administrative coordination in support of engineering projects maintenance activities and operational improvements.

The intern assists engineers with project tracking technical documentation contractor coordination inspections and engineering analysis while working collaboratively with engineers field personnel consultants and other departments.

This position is designed as a developmental opportunity for students pursuing engineering degrees to gain practical experience in electric utility engineering operations project support infrastructure maintenance and industry practices.

  • Assist engineers under direct supervision in evaluating operational and maintenance needs and identifying cost-effective solutions for maintaining or replacing existing equipment.
  • Support long-range planning activities related to equipment lifecycle management budgeting and the orderly replacement of obsolete infrastructure.
  • Assist with engineering analysis data collection and technical research in support of engineering projects and operational improvements.
  • Assist in preparing technical specifications and supporting documentation for contract bids and project proposals.
  • Assist with engineering documentation including technical instructions marked drawings updated drawings and technical manuals.
  • Provide support to field personnel and craftworkers to help implement engineering changes and improvements.
  • Assist engineers with work orders purchasing support technical documentation and project information gathering.
  • Support the administration of contracts for work performed on District facilities including assisting with contractor coordination and inspections.
  • Work collaboratively with consultants contractors and other contract personnel on engineering and maintenance projects.
  • Provide input and support related to project budgeting scheduling and project management activities.
  • Participate in field inspections and assist with documenting work progress and preparing inspection reports.
  • Assist with failure analysis reliability tracking and collection of equipment performance data.
  • Support engineers in evaluating system performance and identifying opportunities for operational improvements.
  • Assist other departments in resolving operational or technical issues arising from daily activities.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with engineers craft workers suppliers consultants contractors and company representatives.
  • Promote teamwork and collaboration across departments and divisions.

  • Actively participate in all aspects of our safety program including but not limited to:

        Required Qualifications (Education Experience Licenses & Certifications):

        • Current Student with a sophomore standing or higher and accepted into a program to obtain a B.S. in Engineering or B.S. in Engineering Technology.
        • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher throughout the internship and provide verification upon request
        • Maintain full-time student status for the duration of the internship and provide verification upon request

        Preferred Qualifications (Education Experience Licenses & Certifications):

        • Enrolled as a Junior or Senior standing in Engineering or Engineering Technology
        • Coursework or academic focus related to electrical mechanical civil or power systems engineering.
        • Prior internship cooperative education or related technical work experience.

        Other Knowledge Skills & Abilities

        Knowledge of:

        • Basic engineering principles and problem-solving methods
        • Organizational and departmental policies and procedures
        • Basic office practices and general office environments
        • File management and record-keeping systems
        • Computer programs and standard business applications including Microsoft Office
        • Administrative processes related to scheduling estimating manpower coordination and project task tracking

        Skill in:

        • Operating a personal computer and general office equipment
        • Accurate data entry and document preparation
        • Using Microsoft Office applications to organize data and support project tracking
        • Organizing and prioritizing multiple assignments while maintaining attention to detail
        • Communicating clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
        • Working collaboratively with engineers technical staff and field personnel in a professional environment

        Physical Requirements

        • Majority of work is performed in a standard office setting.
          • Will perform work onsite at the locations of the assigned Business Units
        • Typical shift of employees in this position: â8 hours â9 hours â10 hours â12 hours
