Job Description

The Vice Provost of University of Nevada Reno at Lake Tahoe Wayne L. Prim Campus is a rare opportunity to build and lead an academic destination in a breathtaking alpine setting. Serving as the chief academic administrative and operations officer the Vice Provost will shape and activate a dynamic campus designed to inspire innovation at the intersection of sustainability research excellence and community impact. This position reports to the Executive Vice President and Provost for the University of Nevada Reno.

The Wayne L. Prim Campus is a newly acquired location of the University of Nevada Reno and a cornerstone of the Universitys long-term strategic trajectory advancing UNRs R1 research ambitions strengthening national visibility and accelerating the RenoTahoe region as a hub for sustainability education research and leadership. Located in breathtaking Lake Tahoe the campus blends a distinctive residential learning environment with place-based academic experiences including themed semesters at Lake Tahoe and other immersive field-based offerings alongside access to unparalleled natural laboratories and research assets that support high-impact scholarship and public engagement.

The Vice Provost will serve as the chief academic administrative and operations leader for the Wayne L. Prim Campus overseeing budgeting and forecasting facilities housing service contracts and policy development while building mentoring and empowering a high-performing team. Just as importantly this leader will galvanize partnerships across the University and throughout the Tahoe Basin working with public agencies community organizations philanthropy and peer institutions to expand academic programs applied research and signature convenings that elevate the Universitys impact.

Campus Programming

The Vice Provost will serve as champion of the University of Nevada Reno at Lake Tahoes vision mission and goals ensuring full alignment with the Universitys strategic priorities. The Vice Provost will cultivate and expand innovative research creative scholarly and entrepreneurial programming that leverages the campuss distinctive setting and close collaboration with academic units across the University and partners throughout the Nevada System of Higher Education the Vice Provost will implement dynamic undergraduate graduate and continuing education offerings including themed semesters at Lake Tahoe immersive field-based experiences and stackable micro-credentials designed for todays learners. The role will further advance the Universitys Digital Wolf Pack Initiative by establishing the University of Nevada Reno at Lake Tahoe as a cutting-edge digitally literate campus that integrates technology seamlessly into teaching research and operations. Additionally the Vice Provost will design and sustain a robust recurring portfolio of conferences workshops retreats and signature convenings in partnership with University units government agencies peer institutions and community stakeholders while strengthening community-based programming that advances the Universitys Carnegie Community Engaged designation and land-grant mission.

Fundraising/Community Outreach

The Vice Provost will serve as the chief ambassador and chief advocate for University of Nevada Reno at Lake Tahoe leading and energizing comprehensive fundraising efforts that advance the campuss strategic goals academic programs outreach initiatives and public service partnership with the University of Nevada Reno and its advancement team the Vice Provost will actively engage donors foundations government agencies corporate partners alumni and community leaders to identify and secure diverse revenue streams including grants contracts philanthropic gifts and sponsored initiatives. This leader will cultivate high-impact partnerships articulate the campuss academic and research priorities to external stakeholders and negotiate strategic collaborations that expand opportunity and visibility. Working closely with faculty state and local officials industry representatives private organizations and peer institutions the Vice Provost will strengthen regional and national networks while supporting broader University initiatives such as alumni engagement signature events and institutional advancement efforts that elevate the campuss profile and long-term sustainability.

Finance and Administration

The Vice Provost will provide strategic and operational oversight for all aspects of the University of Nevada Reno at Lake Tahoe campus ensuring excellence efficiency and accountability across staffing programs equipment and resource allocation. The Vice Provost will develop and manage the campus budget forecast future needs and carefully monitor expenditures to align investments with strategic priorities. Responsibilities include coordinating service contracts directly overseeing campus operations including residence halls and facilities and partnering closely with central units of the to ensure seamless delivery of administrative and student support services. The Vice Provost will recruit lead mentor and evaluate a high-performing leadership team fostering a culture of collaboration innovation and continuous improvement. By establishing clear consistent policies and sound operational practices the Vice Provost will ensure the effective development of human capital financial resources and infrastructure necessary to sustain a thriving future-focused campus.

Required Qualifications

Masters Degree and five years of managerial experience OR a Doctorate Degree and three years of managerial experience.

Related Experience

  • Management of academic operations and community engagement programs

  • Experience with budgeting and financial planning

  • Familiarity and appreciation for undergraduate and graduate educational programming and research

  • Demonstrated experience in administration and fundraising

Preferred Qualifications

  • Terminal Degree

  • A strong record of securing external funding cultivating philanthropic support and building partnerships with government agencies foundations industry and community stakeholders

  • Demonstrated experience providing senior-level leadership at a research university field campus or comparable complex academic enterprise.

  • Proven ability to build and sustain partnerships with government agencies foundations industry tribal entities nonprofit organizations and community leaders.

  • Record of effective leadership in faculty and staff recruitment development mentoring and performance evaluation with an emphasis on collaboration and shared governance.

The University is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate.
