The Director of Operations for Shelter for Homeless Program is responsible for overseeing the overall operation and administration of the shelter ensuring efficient and effective delivery of services to homeless individuals and families. This role requires strong leadership organizational skills and a deep commitment to helping those experiencing homelessness.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Under the general direction of the Site Director the Operations Director is responsible for the day to day management of the building operations and support services including security and food programs performs related work.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Education Requirements
1. A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and work experience as stated in item 1 below or
2. Two years of college and work experience as stated in item 2 below.
3. Fire Safety Coordinator F-80 within 90 days of hire.
Experience Requirements
1. A minimum of three years experience supervising the delivery of services to homeless shelter environments
2. A minimum of three years of experience working in a shelter supportive housing environment
Preferred Skills:
Under the general direction of the Site Director the Operations Director is responsible for the day to day management of the building operations and support services including security and food programs performs related work.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Provides day to day guidance to the Operations of our Site as well as to the Shift Supervisors and Residential Aids and Security personnel.
- Ensures that established operational procedures are followed to provide a clean safe and secure environment for both clients and staff. Regularly tours the interior and exterior of the building to make sure conditions are in accord with established standards; initiates corrective action if necessary.
- Ensures that required Incident Reports are prepared and submitted to the Site Director in a timely fashion providing all relevant information and documentation as soon as possible following the incident.
- Monitors the implementation of the Emergency Plan such as a Fire Drill; maintaining the records to have current certificates for Fire Safety Wardens and scheduling staff for training as with Food Vendor in dietary items ordering inventory and various culinary procurement on a weekly basis for the dietary needs for Bogart guests.
- Works with security staff in providing 24/7 security support throughout the facility
- Provides individual and/or group supervision to Residential Aides and Shift Supervisors.
- Performs a continuous assessment of staff training and team building needs
- Works in collaboration with Site Director to maintain facility inventory of client supplies ensuring that site maintains optimal operational inventory levels.
- Establish and train staff in procedures to respond to behavioral health emergencies.
- Available to respond to program emergencies on a 24/7/365 basis especially after normal work hours and on weekends.
- Other duties as assigned by the Site Director

- Must have a commitment to consistently promoting and supporting staff in the delivery of trauma-informed care
- Demonstrated ability to motivate professional and support staff to work cooperatively to provide high quality services
- Demonstrated ability to respond to crises and/or support and empower staff in crises as appropriate
- Demonstrated ability to work with complex program structures and model effective collaboration
- Must be able to perform in a high-pressure environment set and meet deadlines and delegate as appropriate
- Excellent oral writing and listening skills and an ability to effectively communicate with staff and guests
- Knowledge of CARES case management software as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
