As a Senior Data Engineer you will help shape and deliver KiwiRails enterprise data platform.
You will design build and maintain scalable data pipelines that transform raw data into reliable well-structured information that supports analytics and business decision making.
Working within the Data Engineering team you will develop data ingestion and transformation pipelines while acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for data engineering tools and best practices.
You will work closely with analysts data scientists architects and business stakeholders to deliver trusted data solutions that support operational and strategic outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and building scalable data pipelines for ingestion transformation and modelling
- Developing and optimising workflows using Azure Data Factory Synapse Databricks and Microsoft Fabric
- Implementing reusable frameworks and automation to improve efficiency and reliability
- Monitoring data pipelines and troubleshooting performance or data quality issues
- Implementing data validation quality checks and monitoring mechanisms
- Supporting architecture decisions and maintaining engineering standards
- Mentoring engineers and contributing to best practices across the team

- Strong experience in data engineering or similar technical roles
- Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory Synapse Fabric or Databricks
- Strong SQL and PySpark skills for data transformation and optimisation
- Experience building data ingestion and transformation pipelines
- Knowledge of data modelling approaches (dimensional relational lakehouse or warehouse)
- Understanding of data quality monitoring and governance practices
- Experience working in agile cross-functional teams
- Ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
