Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this full-time contractual position will be to lead and execute the States strategic initiatives by implementing Food Is Medicine interventions throughout the state. Food Is Medicine is a set of interventions that address the root causes of poor health by improving dietary quality and reducing food insecurity. Food Is Medicine interventions have been shown to improve population health and reduce healthcare system costs.

This position will be responsible for the development and coordination of two primary demonstration programs: Medically Tailored Meals (MTMs) and Place-Based Produce Prescriptions (Produce Rx) focusing on improving health outcomes and overall population health for Maryland residents. This position will also plan around future scaling and sustainability of Food Is Medicine as routine healthcare. This position will provide guidance on evaluation analysis and development of policies and programs that leverage food-based interventions as a strategy to prevent chronic disease in key demographics combat food insecurity and ultimately improve the overall health of addition this position will plan and make recommendations for future scaling and sustainability of Food Is Medicine.

Please Note: This position is hybrid telework eligible.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience evaluating analyzing researching and developing health care services policies and programs.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Masters degree in Health Sciences Health Care Administration Public Health Public Policy or closely related fieldfor one year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Doctorate degree in Health Sciences Health Care Administration Public Health Public Policy or closely related fieldfor the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess:
  • A Masters degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Public Policy Nutrition Science Food Systems Healthcare Administration or a related field.
  • Experience with food-based interventions to advance population health including but not limited to Food Is Medicine.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage accidental death and dismemberment insurance and life insurance but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
