UW Facilities manages the Universitys buildingsinfrastructureand land with more than 1100 employees in a variety of fields. The Asset Management group includes Capital & Space Management Real EstateSustainabilityand other teams responsible for planning and workload management. The Operations group includes Project Delivery Maintenance & Construction Campus Energy Utilities & Operations Building Services Transportation Services and Safety. Information Technology group and the Finance & Administration group. We have an outstanding opportunity for a Maintenance Mechanic 2 to join the team.

Under the direction of the supervisor and lead perform skilled work in the operation maintenance repair remodeling and construction of buildings grounds machinery facilities and equipment.

Work involves repair installation and maintenance of physical facilities requiring skilled mechanical andtradeswork.

A good working knowledge of several related skill fields such as electrical plumbing carpentryweldingand machinist work.

Work independently in troubleshooting and completing routine corrective and preventive maintenance assignments.

Repair of buildings facilities and equipment such as windows window blinds and screens doors patching and painting of interior spaces minor plumbing repair masonry repair shelving removal and installation carpentry repairs replace ceiling tiles laminate repairs.

Perform preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Perform the following typical tasks:

  • Patch and paint walls

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment.

  • Removerepairand replace ceiling tiles

  • Repair windows doors screens floors floorcoveringsand painted surfaces.

  • Perform journey level tasks in machinerymechanics;such as repair and replacement of drive beltsmotorsetc.on-airhandling equipment.

  • Maintain boilers repair kitchenequipmentand exhaust fans

  • Adjust door closers

  • Hang shower curtains

  • Hook shower drains

  • Tighten toilet seats

  • Operate various power tools in a skilled manner

  • Mayassist coordinate and/or work with other trades and journey level personnel

  • Perform semi-skilled tasks in multiple trades includingelectrician and plumbing work.

  • Replace lighting ballasts and lamps.

  • Replace showers heads

  • Repairing leaking faucets

  • Install shower sweeps

  • Operate machinery such as forklifts andscissor-lifts.

  • Load andunload materials and supplies.

  • Operate vehicles such as UW vans and trucks to transport toolsequipmentand personnel to various job sites.

  • Keep supervisor informed of project status and work progressproject materials and equipment.

  • May instruct semi-skilled workers.

  • Communicate and coordinate with otherUW Facilitiesshops tofacilitatework.

  • Know andcomply withoccupational health and safety regulations specific to the work and conduct on the job including Safety Data Sheet (SDS) instructions Hazard Review Checklists (HRCs) and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as.

  • Comply withall UW andUW Facilitiespolicies and proceduresM&Cprotocolsi.e.IndividualAccountability Protocols (IAP).

  • Support all management directives and the vision and values ofM&C.

  • Participate in and follow through withM&Cprocess improvement initiatives including Balanced Scorecard (BSC) incorporating metrics and Lean principles into internal work processes and promoting employee engagement in continuous improvements and innovation.

  • Activelyparticipatein meetings and training as scheduled.

  • Provide excellent customer service through effectivecourteousand professional interactions with clientscolleaguesand the campus community.

Education & Experience

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a journey worker OR full-journey status in a union; OR four years applicable work experience.Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.

  • Possession of avalid motor vehicle operators license may be required.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements such as a license certification and/or registration.

Desired

  • Knowledge and practical experience with WISHA (Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) regulations.

  • Demonstratedproficiencywith standard productivity software including Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent products.

  • Demonstrated successful ability in taking direction working well withothersand as a member of a team.

  • Demonstratedexcellenteffective verbal and written communication skills.

Conditions of employment

Pay Range Minimum:

$58668.00 annual

$77892.00 annual
