Job Summary

This position is responsible for general mechanical engineering structural and thermal analysis of power distribution switchboards load centers and power distribution panels for Navy shipboard-based systems. Knowledge of mechanical layout and packaging of such systems is necessary. Given the system complexity the associated responsibilities and assignments require the exercise of considerable initiative planning and independent judgment. The candidate shall demonstrate technical acuity which encompasses interpretation of specifications/requirements and resolution of complex mechanical design and analysis problems. Shall be able to lead mechanical engineering design efforts on a project.

Skills/Experience:

Qualifications:

  • 4 years of experience using 3-D CAD software tools in design function SolidWorks or equivalent modeling software (solid modeler) experience a must.
  • 2 years of experience in interpreting and performing to military and/or industry specifications and standards pertaining to design testing hardware material and processes.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with minimum 5 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • 2 years of experience in Commercial/Navy/Military Specifications for environmental qualification testing.
  • Experience working with Power Distribution Switchgear or similar low/medium-voltage/high-power type equipment
  • 2 years of experience reading and interpreting wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Skilled in design of high impact shock and vibration mitigation for sheet metal weldment electrical enclosures
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and execute own tasks with minimal guidance
  • Ability to lead others in design team and execute tasks on-time and on-budget
  • Excellent technical writing skills demonstrated through authorship of technical documentation such as design reports test procedures etc.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.

Degree Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with minimum 5 years of prior related experience.
    • or Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with minimum 3 years of prior relevant experience. Must have experience and/or training in mechanical engineering.
    • Or in lieu of a degree minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
