POSITION: Substitute Specialist
CLASSIFICATION:Non-Exempt Classified Compensation12-Month Work Calendar
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: To secure train and support substitute placements for absent certified and when appropriate classified staff.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources
PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
- Receives calls either in person or through Frontline from absent staff members.
- Calls and verifies substitutes for absent staff.
- Make school assignments as needed.
- Verifies employment of substitutes.
- Conducts reference and background checks on substitute applicants.
- Verifies employee absences.
- Advises payroll services of required leave transactions and maintains substitute records.
- Develops programs for substitute recruitment.
- Provides orientation for new substitutes.
- Assist other Human Resources staff with general tasks as assigned including: benefits application processing reference/background checks and additional clerical duties
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of recruitment practices and techniques.
- Knowledge of Arizona certification requirements
- Knowledge of effective classroom strategies for substitute placements
- Knowledge of district temporary employment policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of office equipment and computer hardware and software applications.
- Skill in recruiting temporary employees.
- Skill in operating office equipment and computer hardware and software applications.
- Skill in communicating orally and in writing.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED and one (1) year clerical or recruiting work experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience that provide the required knowledge and skill. Degree in Education or related field preferred. Bilingual preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications. Valid Arizona DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance card.
REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: AZ Teaching or Substitute Certificate preferred
