About the role Mō te tūranga:
Our Haematology Department is seeking a dedicated enthusiastic and skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team on a permanent full-time basis (80 hours per fortnight).

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the effective and efficient performance of our department by working collaboratively with a supportive and professional team. Youll play an important role in delivering high-quality laboratory services that support exceptional patient care and clinical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform and interpret routine haematology and morphology tests.
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting of laboratory results in line with quality standards.
• Contribute to workflow organisation and help prioritise tasks to meet service requirements.
• Participate in internal and external quality control programmes.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and report any issues to ensure optimal performance.
• Follow established laboratory processes and quality systems.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
• Keep up to date with developments in haematology and maintain professional standards.

About you He kōrero mōu
To be successful in this role you need to have:

• Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with an Annual Practising Certificate.
• Ability to work rostered shifts including weekends.
• Strong commitment to accuracy efficiency and high-quality results.
• Proven ability to interpret complex laboratory data and report findings confidently.
• Skilled in workflow prioritisation and working collaboratively in a team environment.
• Experience supporting or mentoring junior laboratory staff.
• Familiarity with quality assurance systems and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
• Preference for experience in Flow Cytometry and / or Coagulation testing.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide technical and scientific advice.
• The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines.
• Committed to health and safety compliance and maintaining a clean safe work environment.
• Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
