Job Summary

Summary

The Vice President Commercial Nuclear Development will play a critical leadership role in advancing NYPAs strategy to bring nuclear generation to New York. Reporting to the Senior Vice President Nuclear Development this executive drives the commercial vision for NYPAs emerging nuclear portfolio: shaping partnership models evaluating opportunities and defining the commercial pathways that position NYPA to deploy advanced nuclear technologies at scale.
This role is central to turning strategy into executable investmentready projects. The VP leads commercial structuring for complex firstofakind initiatives; cultivates highimpact relationships with technology providers government partners and industry leaders; and ensures NYPAs commercial approach aligns with its public mission regulatory environment and longterm system needs. Working closely with crossfunctional teams the VP brings strong commercial instincts disciplined risk awareness and an ability to navigate dynamic technical and policy landscapes.
The ideal candidate brings a sophisticated understanding of the nuclear sector and a passion for helping NYPA deliver reliable zerocarbon generation that supports New Yorks cleanenergy future.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement negotiation strategies that ensure the achievement of organizational objectives and compliance with governance frameworks.
  • Lead the structuring and negotiation of commercial agreements to align incentives allocate risks appropriately and protect long-term project value.
  • Execute and finalize complex commercial negotiations in alignment with approved strategy and governance frameworks.
  • Work within established governance frameworks as lead negotiator partnering closely with Legal Finance Procurement and executive leadership.
  • Provide commercial assurance insights and recommendations to the executive leadership.
  • Ensure alignment of commercial terms with regulatory requirements public funding sources (as applicable) and long-term project objectives.
  • Oversee monitoring of commercial performance contractual obligations and cost exposure across major partners and vendors.
  • Build strong durable commercial relationships with counterparties while maintaining disciplined risk management acting as a primary point of contact for high-level commercial negotiations and relationship management.
  • Lead and mentor junior commercial staff fostering a culture of excellence and ensuring the quality and consistency of commercial outputs.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Deep expertise in commercial strategy contract negotiation and risk-sharing mechanisms for large complex capital projects.
  • Proven track record in structuring and finalizing complex commercial agreements.
  • Strong financial acumen to assess cost value and long-term implications of commercial decisions.
  • Ability to leverage both extensive experience and proven track record in establishing and maintaining credibility with senior stakeholders and high-level counterparties.
  • Ability to operate effectively within complex governance and regulatory environments.
  • Demonstrated ability in paying meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of commercial strategy and negotiations.
  • Exceptional communication skills including strong business writing and verbal presentation abilities Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines.
  • Excellent leadership and coaching skills to support and develop staff members.

Education Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelors degree required in Business Finance Engineering or relevant field; Masters degree preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of experience preferred in commercial procurement or contract-related work for large capital programs
  • Minimum 3 years of experience preferred in managing employees or leading a team
  • Experience in utilities or energy sector preferred

Physical Requirements

Up to 10% travel primarily within NY State.

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair competitive and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $216750 - $270000. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates relevant experience knowledge skills and abilities.
