SUMMARY:

The Mayors Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the City governments chief financial agency. OMBs staff of analysts and experts assembles and oversees the Mayors expense and capital budgets which fund the services and activities of approximately 90 City agencies and entities.

Monitor agency Revenues (including analysis of related expenses and claims) and program operations; identify potential financial risks savings or efficiencies.
-Perform financial forecasts using appropriate quantitative techniques.
-Analyze base-year budgets and recommend changes.
-Preparation of exercises and analyses of federal and State revenues including the impact of legislative and regulatory changes on revenues as well as operational changes
-Develop and maintain various databases documents and briefing sheets on Agencys revenue sources budgets and progress in implementing key initiatives related to revenue
-Provide clear analyses and documentation to complete required technical exercises
-Research review and display knowledge and awareness of all aspects of revenue operations
-Developing briefing materials and reports utilizing superior written and oral communication skills. Brief other staff at OMB on various revenue topics. capital projects. These agencies are the Administration for Childrens Services Department of Social Services (Human Resources Administration and Department of Homeless Services) Department for the Aging and Department of Youth and Community Development.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

OMBs Revenue unit is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented intern to assist with the analysis and tracking of funding for federal state and private grants receieved by New York City. As an intern you will play a vital role in helping us review and track historical trends in grant allocations for NYC social services agencies. Your work will involve tracking how budget allocations funding and policy changes impact social services programs. Specifically you will: Responsibilities:
-Tracking specific grants received by NYC and how they have changed over time.
-Evaluate external factors: Assess how changes in legislation and federal and state changes influence service funding.
-Support recommendations: Help identify areas for improvement in funding strategy and assist in developing actionable recommendations to ensure the financial sustainability of services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in gaining experience in city budgeting and NYC social service programs. Skills:
-Strong interest in public policy budgeting and social services
-Data analysis in Excel
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly
-Detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple tasks with accuracy
-Strong analytical and project management skills
-Strong sense of curiosity

REQUIREMENTS:

Undergraduate interns must be currently enrolled or accepted into an accredited college or university. Strong analytical research and communications skills are required. Candidates must have familiarity in MS Word and Excel

To participate in the OMB Summer Internship Program undergraduate students must be enrolled or accepted into a college or university.

Compensation/Duration:

Summer Undergraduate Intern$17.50 per hour

Internships will run for 10 weeks from June 1 2026 to August 7 2026. The work must be done during the regular workday 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. no evenings or weekends.

Qualifications :

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June - August each year.
