Plan Examination Intern (Manhattan)
Job Description
NOTE: This summer internship is for up to 13 weeks starting from the first day of the internship and ending no later than September 4 2026. Interns are expected to work 35 hours per week in person.

At the NYC Department of Buildings we are responsible for ensuring the safe and lawful use of buildings and properties by enforcing the NYC Construction Codes Energy Code and Zoning Resolution. The Plan Examination unit performs work in the engineering and architectural analysis of structures and building equipment systems and the examination of plans for the construction alteration or repair. The unit examines plans for the construction alteration or repair of buildings and equipment systems under the jurisdiction of the NYC Department of Buildings.
Position Responsibilities
Under the direction and supervision of the Chief Plan Examiner the intern will:
-Become familiar with NYC Construction Codes and Zoning Resolution and what constitutes compliance
-Shadow current plan examiners as they review applications from the Industry
-Assist the Chief Plan Examiner and Assistant Chief Plan Examiners with research applications and presentations
-Receive special projects or assignments from the Borough Commissioners Office
-Participate in training opportunities offered with the Unit

Qualifications :
As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June - August each year.
