The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the nations oldest and largest public housing authority with more than 177000 apartments and responsibility for administering a citywide Section 8 leased housing program that serves over 200000 additional tenants. The Healthy Homes Office of Mold Assessment and Remediation (OMAR) is seeking qualified Carpenters to join the Enhanced Oversight Program Plus (EOP Plus). This program addresses mold and leak repair backlogs. As part of a 30 member Temporary staff consisting of Bricklayers Carpenters Painters and Plumbers selected candidates will work at various developments across the city focusing on resolving work orders older than 100 days and contributing to the reduction of backlogs and improved response times.

In this role carpentry expertise will be applied to address critical mold and leak repair needs ensuring repairs are completed efficiently with faster response times. The program will focus efforts on specific sites where the work will directly impact site maintenance and the overall quality of living for residents.

Under supervision the Carpenter will be part of a specialized team addressing mold and leak repairs citywide as part of the Enhanced Oversight Program Plus. Duties will include but are not limited to:

1. Safely and effectively remove mold and leak damaged materials including drywall and insulation following established safety guidelines.
2. Inspect and replace water-damaged framing studs or other components that cannot be salvaged.
3. Measure cut and install new sheetrock (drywall) including mold-resistant boards for areas with high moisture exposure. Secure drywall to studs using appropriate methods.
4. Repair and replace various shelving cabinets doors and ceilings. Install new cabinets as needed.
5. Install tub enclosures and grab bars. Tile installation and repairs.
6. Install baseboards crown molding door casing and window trim to finish off rooms or structures.
7. Repair and replace doors and associated hardware. Repair floor and bathroom tiles.
8. Follow all safety protocols especially when working with mold and potentially hazardous materials.
9. Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

1. Due to the existence of a civil service list candidates must have permanent civil service status in the title of Carpenter to be considered
NYCHA employees employees applying for transfer promotional title or level change opportunities must have served a period of one year at current location and in current title and level (if applicable).
TRANSFERS INTO NYCHA OF THOSE PERMANENT IN TITLE ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE FACE OF AN ACTIVE AND VIABLE NYCHA PROMOTION LIST OR PREFERRED LIST FOR THE SAME TITLE.

Qualifications :

1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a Carpenter acquired within the last 10 years; or
2. Three years of experience as described in 1 above plus sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade or vocational high school to make up a total of five years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of approved trade or vocational school training.
