The Trades Maintenance Specialist I leads participates or operates independently providing journey-level maintenance repair diagnosis trouble-shooting construction fabrication and preventive maintenance. This position is primarily responsible for carpentry-related tasks including commercial framing installation and repair of doors and windows insulation and drywall. This position requires technical skills experience and knowledge in the area of specialization and is accountable for activities ensuring services or products comply with written procedures engineering drawings specifications contracts industry standards and statutory codes and requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs skilled analysis repair and maintenance of equipment systems and vehicles;

  • Leads fabrication and modifications of equipment systems and facilities based on verbal instructions sketches or technical drawings;

  • Inspects services and maintains tools equipment and vehicles;

  • Conducts quality-control analysis on equipment and systems implementing necessary corrective actions for optimal performance;

  • Inspects approves or certifies the work of others if certified or authorized;

  • Maintains detailed records of activity operations service and usage for equipment vehicles and systems;

  • Prepares oral and written activity reports and estimates for complex operations maintenance and special projects;

  • Prepares sketches and drawings to communicate work plans to supervisors subordinates and contractors;

  • Coordinates activities with other units agencies or contractors to ensure efficient resource use and minimize disruptions;

  • Monitors contractor performance including goods and services provided;

  • Conducts on-the-job training for employees in the assigned work-unit;

  • Manages the handling storage and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with safety protocols;

  • Maintains security and accountability for all tools equipment and materials especially in sensitive environments (e.g. medical law enforcement correctional settings);

  • Ensures the use of safety and personal protective equipment and implements work-site traffic control procedures;

  • Oversees the maintenance and care of turf grasses trees and ornamental shrubs including pest control fertilization and addressing plant health issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years journey-level experience in cabinetry carpentry and structural steel.

OR:

Two years of experience with Pima County in a Trades Maintenance Apprentice or closely-related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

  • Minimum three (3) years experience in commercial framing drywall doors windows and insulation.

  • Experience with/knowledge of installation and repairs of millwork countertops hardware and finish carpentry.

  • Experience with reading and interpreting blueprint drawings.

  • Experience with/knowledge of metal studs framing and fabrication of small scale projects such as awnings and shade structures.

Licenses and Certificates:Valid driver license isat time of application.ValidAZdriver license isat time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review todetermineapplicants suitability tooperatecounty vehiclesin accordance withPima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain andmaintainthe required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record. Some positions require a valid Arizona commercial driver license (CDL) with appropriate endorsement(s) at the time of appointment or prior to completion of an initial/promotional probation period. Positions requiring a CDL are also subject to applicable State of Arizona and federal standards rules and regulations on physical requirements including drug and alcohol testing. Some positions require Arizona certification as an herbicide/pesticide applicator or backflow device inspector/repair person or installer etc. at the time of appointment or prior to completion of an initial/promotional probation period. Failure to obtain/maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.

Special Notice Items: The ability to obtain a jail pass is required. The Countyrequirespre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history education and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Some positions may require satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation by the court or law enforcement agencies due to the need for access to County Attorney and Court facilities records and communication systems. Some positions carry the risk of exposure to infectious diseases blood-borne pathogens asbestos or wastewater products therefore special medical screening prior to or during employment may be necessary to assure employee health and safety.

Physical/Sensory Requirements: A post-job-offerphysical is required. Some positions require the ability to: lift and carry up to seventy-five pounds; safely operate assigned vehicles and other powered equipment; work in extremes of heat humidity dust cold; safely wear required safety clothing/equipment; work with on in the presence of obnoxious odors; work with noxious or potentially hazardous chemicals compounds or products; ascend and descend ladders and stairs to reach and work upon elevated or below-grade work platforms and job sites; differentiate between colors.
