Job Summary

POSITION: Anticipated MS or HS Teacher

LOCATION: Kenowa Hills Middle School or High School

START DATE/CALENDAR: 08/01/2026 per the 2026-27 District Calendar

SUMMARY:

Kenowa Hills Middle and High Schools serve students in grades 612 with a strong commitment to academic excellence personal development and community engagement. As part of the Kenowa Hills Public Schools district we emphasize hands-on learning critical thinking and meaningful real-world experiences. Our supportive and inclusive environment empowers students to grow both intellectually and socially preparing them for success in high school and beyond. We are anticipating an opening at Kenowa Hills Middle or High School.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • We are looking for someone who is passionate about inspiring young minds and engaging students in hands-on interdisciplinary and interactive learning.
  • Must hold a valid State of Michigan secondary teaching certificate (or K-12) with at least one of the following endorsements (or the ability to demonstrate an appropriate endorsement by start of the 2026-27 school year depending on vacancy type):
    • English Language Arts (BX)
    • Social Studies (RX)
    • English (BA)
    • Mathematics (EX)
    • Science (DX or DI)
    • Spanish (FF)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Pedagogy: Deliver personalized student-centered instruction utilizing Capturing Kids Hearts and Restorative Practices.
    1. Successful experience with project-based learning Restorative Practices and Capturing Kids Hearts preferred.
    2. Establish and enforce classroom management procedures consistent with building and district protocol.
  2. Knowledge of standards-based personalized instructional practices based on formative assessments preferred.
    1. Participate in the development and revision of goals and performance objectives for students course content units and projects and learning activities communicate those objectives to the students.
    2. Evaluate procedures and instructional materials; following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
    3. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students varying needs and interests.
    4. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction. demonstration and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe question and investigate.
    5. Use a variety of media and methods in order to motivate students and best utilize available time for instruction.
    6. Prepare administer and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students progress.
  3. Required knowledge of skills and abilities related to diversity and cultural competence.
  4. Knowledge of own competence in the area of diversity and how this influences own behavior and a desire to learn about others identities.
  5. Collaboration: Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and staff meetings to analyze data and improve student outcomes.
  6. Compliance: Actively participate in the districts teacher evaluation process and fulfill all state-mandated effectiveness reporting.
  7. Observe and evaluate student performance behavior social development and physical health and report to parents as needed and required.
  8. Collaborate with other professional staff to enhance instruction and adapt and modify curriculum to meet individual student needs.
  9. Documentation: Maintain accurate attendance behavior and academic records; monitor and report on student performance and social development.
    1. Assign and grade classwork and homework adhering to building and district protocols.

  • Hearing: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Vision: The employee must have close vision distance vision and the ability to adjust focus to read printed materials and computer screens. Must have close vision distance vision and peripheral vision to monitor student behavior and safety across large areas (classrooms athletic fields and hallways).
  • Manual dexterity: Required to operate standard office and instructional equipment.
  • Mobility: The position requires the ability to move between classrooms work areas and occasional outdoor settings. The employee may be exposed to minor hazards related to the use of lab equipment technology tools or student projects with standard safety precautions in place. Frequently required to stand and walk for the duration of the school day; must be able to move quickly to intervene in student safety performing the duties of this job the employee is often required to walk sit use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms stoop kneel or crouch; talk or hear. Ability to occasionally lift and/or move instructional materials lab equipment or classroom furniture weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequently required to stand and walk for the duration of the school day; must be able to move quickly to intervene in student safety situations.
    • Instructional Positioning: Ability to bend stoop reach with hands/arms and kneel to assist students at their desks or manage classroom technology.
  • Safety: Maintain a safe and orderly environment; establish and enforce classroom management procedures consistent with district protocol. The employee must be able to maintain emotional control under stress make quick decisions to ensure student safety and manage multiple priorities with frequent interruptions.
  • Communication: Must be able to speak clearly and audibly to deliver instruction and provide directions during emergency drills.
  • Environmental: Ability to work in an environment with moderate-to-loud noise levels and supervise students in various outdoor weather conditions.
