Position Overview
The position is in charge of all HR People and Culture transformational strategies in the Group which must be aligned to the Groups strategic goals. The position is responsible for providing an effective and efficient human resource generalist function in all the Groups Farms. The GHRM is expected to successfully implement the Groups HR strategy and deliver in conjunction with the Farm HRs Senior HR Officers an effective HR service employer experience customer experience and ultimately shareholder value.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Functions
- The GHRM leads the strategic HR agenda for the entire Group and provides governance and oversight to ensure HR practices are aligned with business objectives.
- Develop and implement the Group HR Strategy aligned with corporate strategic goals.
- Provide strategic HR advisory support to the CEO General Managers and Farm Managers.
- Design and standardise HR policies procedures and HR minimum standards across all farms.
- Oversee compliance with Kenyan labour laws and international social compliance standards (Fairtrade GRASP SMETA SEDEX Global G.A.P and customer ethical sourcing standards).
- Develop and manage the Group HR reporting framework and consolidate HR data from all farms.
- Monitor key workforce indicators such as labour productivity labour cost efficiency employee turnover and absenteeism.
- Lead talent acquisition strategies for senior leadership roles across the Group.
- Develop succession planning frameworks for critical leadership positions.
- Drive organisational culture initiatives and employee engagement programs at Group level.
- Liaise with General Managers and Farm Managers on strategic workforce planning and labour risk management.
- Frequent meetings between the CEO CFO General Managers and Farm Managers shall ensure continuous communication alignment on developments and resolution of concerns.
- The GHRM maintains continuous engagement with General Managers and Farm Managers to ensure HR strategy supports operational success.
- Monthly HR performance discussions with farm leadership.
- Quarterly strategic workforce planning sessions and Labour productivity reviews.
- Employee engagement and culture initiatives.
- Risk assessment relating to labour compliance and workforce stability.
Operational Functions
- The GHRM provides supervision operational oversight and technical support to farm HR teams to ensure consistent implementation of Group HR policies.
- Ensure implementation of Group HR policies and procedures uniformly across farms.
- Provide guidance on complex disciplinary cases employee grievances and labour disputes.
- Support General and Farm Managers in managing employee relations and workforce challenges.
- Monitor workforce productivity metrics including labour per hectare and employee-to-hectare ratios.
- Ensure farm-level compliance with labour laws and social compliance standards.
- Support farms during internal and external social compliance audits.
- Provide mentorship training coaching and technical HR support to farm HR teams.
- Ensure workforce levels align with operational and production requirements.
- Support the teamwork essence of each farms team both managerial and value adders by ensuring theres democracy in decision making.
- Payroll request approvals and processing in tandem with the farm HR/Payroll teams.
- Each farm shall prepare a monthly HR tracker covering workforce performance compliance social audit matters and key HR metrics which must be reviewed with the Farm Manager and General Manager before submission to the GHRM for consolidation analysis of trends and risks and reporting to Group leadership with recommended HR interventions.
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Human Resource Management Business Administration or related field.
- Masters Degree in HRM or MBA is an added advantage.
- Professional certification such as CHRP or IHRM membership in good standing.
- Minimum 10 years progressive HR experience with at least 5 years in senior HR leadership.
- Experience managing HR in large workforce environments (500 employees).
- Experience in agriculture floriculture manufacturing or labor-intensive sectors is desirable.
