Principal Road Designer

This is a rare opportunity to step into a key technical leadership role within KBRs Perth Design team and influence how major road infrastructure is designed and delivered across Western Australia.

About the Role:

As the Principal Roads Designer you will be the technical authority for road design modelling and BIMenabled digital engineering in Perth. You will set direction establish standards and lead the delivery of highquality constructible road design models and drawing packages across complex MRWA projects. A critical aspect of the role is building and maintaining strong trusted relationships with MRWA working collaboratively to align on standards design intent and delivery outcomes.

This role will appeal to a senior roads professional with established MRWA relationships who is looking to combine deep technical expertise with a people leadership position. You will mentor designers strengthen digital engineering capability within the Perth team and collaborate with national counterparts to align standards and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership for road design and OpenRoads modelling on MRWA projects.

  • Act as the primary technical authority for road and civil design modelling within the Perth office.

  • Own the quality and delivery of 3D models and drawing packages from concept to IFC.

  • Set govern and assure modelling standards workflows and design compliance.

  • Apply professional judgement to complex design and site conditions.

  • Support BIMenabled digital engineering and multidisciplinary model coordination.

  • Deliver and coordinate concept and detailed designs across multiple disciplines.

  • Build strong trusted relationships with MRWA clients and statutory authorities.

  • Mentor and uplift road designers contributing to technical excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate nationally to align standards support workshare and improve delivery efficiency.

Skills & Experience:

  • Diploma or equivalent qualification in civil design or a related discipline.

  • Minimum 15 years experience in civil road design and drafting.

  • Demonstrated experience leading model and drawing package delivery for MRWA road projects.

  • Advanced proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads Designer.

  • Strong capability in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.

  • Extensive experience working within Austroads MRWA Supplements and Australian Standards.

  • Advanced technical skills in 3D corridor and terrain modelling intersections superelevation and quantity extraction.

  • Strong understanding of road geometry earthworks modelling drainage integration and constructability.

  • Proven ability to technically review and assure models and drawings to a senior technical standard.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills particularly with MRWA and project partners.

  • Proactive solutionsfocused mindset with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
