Position Summary:

The Director of Campus and Residential Accountability Community and Support is a live-in full-time 12-month position that serves as a senior member of the Residence Life leadership team and the second-in-command to the Executive Director of Residence Life. The position reports directly to the Executive Director of Residential Life with a dotted line to the Dean of Students for conduct matters.

This position plays a pivotal role in fostering a safe inclusive and accountable campus community that supports students academic and personal success. The Director oversees the Colleges student conduct system advises the Judicial and Honor Councils and coordinates campus-wide education around the Honor Code and community addition the Director provides case management for students of concern leads crisis response efforts and works collaboratively across campus to ensure holistic student support.

In partnership with the Executive Director the Director helps shape the strategic direction policies and professional development initiatives for the Office of Residence Life. This role provides day-to-day supervision to residence life staff assumes leadership of departmental operations in the Executive Directors absence and contributes to advancing the mission and values of Salem College.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership and Administration

  • Serve as the deputy leader of the Residence Life team assuming departmental oversight in the absence of the Executive Director.
  • Assist the Executive Director with strategic planning assessment and implementation of departmental goals and initiatives.
  • Demonstrate self-directed management of departmental projects staff supervision and crisis response seeking guidance on a consultative basis when necessary.
  • Supervise mentor and evaluate professional Residence Life staff and support the selection training and development of Area Coordinators and Resident Advisors (RAs).
  • Contribute to the development of policies procedures and programming that enhance the residential student experience and promote community well-being.
  • Help manage departmental budgets resources and operational planning to ensure effective use of staff and materials.
  • Collaborate on campus-wide initiatives related to student retention wellness and community engagement.

Student Conduct and Honor System Leadership

  • Oversee the student conduct process ensuring fairness consistency and compliance with institutional policies and regulations.
  • Serve as the primary conduct officer for the campus.
  • Advise and support the Judicial Council and Honor Council including training and case coordination.
  • Lead educational efforts related to the Honor Code including sessions during New Student Orientation and Leadership training. Serve as a key participant for the campus-wide Engaging Ethics programs promoting ethics and character development.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential conduct records in compliance with FERPA.
  • Develop educational and restorative sanctions that promote learning self-reflection and community repair.
  • Analyze and report student conduct trends to inform prevention strategies and community education efforts.

Student Care and Support

  • Provide case management and outreach for students experiencing academic personal or behavioral challenges.
  • Serve as a central contact for student welfare concerns from faculty staff and peers.
  • Participate on the Early Alert team to ensure coordinated support and timely interventions.
  • Build strong partnerships with Counseling Services Health Services Academic Affairs Public Safety and other departments to promote student well-being.

Crisis Response and On-Call Duties

  • Serve in a professional on-call rotation responding to after-hours and weekend emergencies involving residential or campus incidents.
  • Collaborate with Residence Life staff Public Safety and Counseling Services to manage crises and ensure student safety and follow-up care.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act responsible for timely and accurate reporting of campus incidents.

Residential Engagement and Collaboration

  • Work closely with Residence Life professional staff and RAs to create a culture of accountability belonging and care within the residence halls.
  • Partner with campus departments to deliver holistic student-centered programming and engagement opportunities.
  • Serve on institutional committees such as Orientation Early Alert Retention and other Student Affairs initiatives.
  • Contribute to campus traditions and events such as Orientation Family Weekend and Commencement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree and at least six years of progressively responsible experience in student conduct residence life or related roles.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising and developing professional residence life staff.
  • Demonstrated initiative and resourcefulness in solving complex issues and implementing new initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of student conduct administration crisis management and student case management.
  • Knowledge of restorative and educational approaches to student accountability.
  • Excellent communication organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to live on campus and work evenings weekends and during emergencies.

Valid drivers license and satisfactory driving record.



Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Higher Education Student Affairs Counseling or a related field.
  • Experience advising judicial or honor councils.
  • Experience developing educational programs on ethics integrity or community values.
  • Familiarity with Title IX Clery Act and FERPA compliance.

Physical Functions

While performing the responsibilities of the College Director of Campus and Residential Accountability Community and Support the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend reach lift push and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally stand walk and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
