Job description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Preop Lead Nurse to oversee the delivery of exceptional evidencebased care within our PreAssessment service. This is a senior clinical leadership position responsible for ensuring high standards of patient care operational efficiency and a safe organised working environment.
The Preop Lead will manage the day-to-day service including both FacetoFace and telephone-based pre-assessments while providing strong clinical leadership and supporting the wider outpatient team. The role involves balancing clinical responsibilities with key management duties supporting workforce planning and leading on HR-related functions for the team.
The post holder will be a visible clinical leader spending approximately 75% of their time within the outpatient nursing rota contributing directly to patient care.
Job requirements
Operational Management & Leadership
Lead the delivery of highquality evidencebased care across the Outpatients/Preassessment department.
Provide visible motivational leadership through strong communication feedback appraisals and rolemodelling.
Ensure safe efficient daily operations including staffing levels skill mix resource allocation and rota management.
Oversee ward environment equipment consumables and medication management.
Maintain administrative and clinical governance including KPIs audits incident investigations quality monitoring and safe staffing.
Build strong relationships with consultants and the wider MDT to support personalised efficient patient care.
Deputise for the Outpatient Sister and Head of Nursing actively contributing to the wider leadership team and service development.
Promote collaborative effective communication across the MDT resolving issues and seeking feedback from staff.
Drive quality improvement initiatives SOP and policy development and support change management.
Stay current with professional guidance and share best practice across the team.
Support sustainability and lead on ward-based regulatory compliance in preparation for CQC.
Management of Staff
Lead all aspects of staff management including recruitment induction appraisals performance sickness retention and professional development.
Ensure full compliance with HR policies and accurate maintenance of staff competencies.
Mentor coach and develop nursing staff creating a positive learning culture in line with professional standards.
Support continuous professional development reflective practice and student supervision.
Deliver effective communication through meetings updates and structured information cascades.
Promote wellbeing inclusivity diversity and respectful leadership.
Take responsibility for personal development to strengthen leadership and clinical capability.
Patient Care Safety & Quality
Act as a visible accessible senior clinical leader for patients families and staff.
Lead and supervise safe evidencebased nursing practice ensuring robust assessment risk management and care delivery.
Monitor clinical standards and nursing performance indicators acting on areas for improvement.
Maintain accurate nursing documentation and ensure effective communication of patient progress.
Provide highquality clinical information and support to patients and relatives.
Ensure a safe clean ward environment strong infection prevention practices and effective equipment and medicines management.
Lead the ward audit programme and ensure completion of actions.
Manage patient feedback concerns and complaints promptly using insights to improve care.
Key Measures of Success
Strong performance in regulatory assessments (e.g. aiming for Outstanding in CQC).
Achievement of clinical and managerial KPIs.
Effective budget management and resource utilisation.
High compliance with policies procedures and professional standards.
Positive patient outcomes satisfaction scores and experience feedback.
Positive staff survey results engagement and feedback.
