Accounts & Tax Assistant
Location: Barnsley
Salary: 22-32k per annum
Experience: UK accountancy practice experience preferred

Overview

We are supporting a well-established accountancy practice to recruit an Accounts & Tax Assistant. This role is ideal for someone looking to build a solid grounding across accounts preparation and tax compliance with structured support and clear development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with preparing statutory accounts for sole traders partnerships and limited companies
Support the preparation of corporation tax computations and returns
Prepare personal tax returns and help gather information from clients
Maintain accurate working papers and ensure deadlines are met
Liaise with clients to request records resolve queries and provide a professional service
Assist with bookkeeping and VAT returns where required (depending on the team and portfolio)
Support managers with ad hoc tasks and workflow during busy periods

What Were Looking For

Some experience in a UK accountancy practice (accounts and/or tax) is beneficial
AAT studying/qualified or ATT/ACA/ACCA studying is welcome (not essential)
Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
Confident communicator with a professional manner when dealing with clients
Comfortable using accounting software and Excel (training provided where needed)
