Administrator (Executive Director) - 260 days per year 8 hours per day.
Job Summary
Manages and provides strategic leadership for the divisions public affairs and communication initiatives including community outreach to the School Board Superintendent and other division and school staff. Provides accurate and timely communication to students parents citizens and various media outlets. Supports division-level administrative services in compliance with division policies and VDOE regulations. This position requires extensive knowledge of Augusta County Public Schools (ACPS) procedures and policies the ability to assume responsibility coordinate communications work effectively and independently under pressure and maintain confidentiality.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Act as liaison between the Superintendent Deputy Superintendent Executive Staff School Board and others in the district and community.
- Assist the Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent in critical communication with Board members.
- Serve as Deputy Clerk of the School Board.
- Works with the Superintendent and other senior leadership to develop a strategic communication plan aligned with the ACPS mission vision and goals.
- Serves as a key member of the division leadership with crisis management in responding to emergencies or other events as they occur by coordinating developing and delivering communication within and outside the school division.
- Manages the ACPS website in coordination with the Technology Department.
- Maintain and monitor all School Board and ACPS social media platforms and incorporate them into the overall communication initiatives.
- Manage media relations - prepare news releases develop public information plan monitor media coverage and highlight activities in the school division.
- Serve as first responder to inquiries from the public or schools.
- Assist in maintaining current ACPS policies and procedures along with updating and maintaining the Administrative Manual.
- Keep informed of state policy and legislative issues distribute related information to staff as deemed appropriate.
- Develops and updates key internal and external presentations fact sheets and messages for the Superintendent and other division leadership in various multimedia formats for the Superintendent and School Board.
- Assist the Deputy Superintendent with annual updates regarding VDOE requirements and reports.
- Assist the Deputy Superintendent by maintaining updated Emergency Manuals Disaster Teams and School Crisis Plan files making them available to appropriate school division law enforcement and emergency/rescue personnel.
- Assist the Deputy Superintendent with review and approval of special permission requests transfer requests part-time enrollment homeschool requests distribution of materials and building use applications.
- Assist the Deputy Superintendent with student enrollment projections.
- Assist the Deputy Superintendent with FOIA requests.
- Serve as a member of the Discipline Committee.
- Serve as the Title IX Coordinator and Investigator for ACPS.
- Support school-based administration in consistently implementing policies and procedures related to student behavior school safety and the orderly operations of the school
- Address the concerns and questions of stakeholders (parents community members etc)
- Foster positive community relations over time; build trust and ongoing positive relationships with constituents.
- Prepare Executive Team meeting agendas and packets.
- Assist in the organization of Summer Administrative Meetings.
- Take initiative to research and organize new resources that will support the work of the Superintendent and ACPS.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Superintendent Deputy Superintendent and School Board.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required
- Demonstrate aptitude and ability for successful performance of the Essential Functions and Responsibilities listed.
- Outstanding skills related to technology - utilize Google Workspace appropriately and efficiently to compose initial drafts of letters and memos as appropriate create and manipulate spreadsheets and databases to represent information in useful ways create graphics that communicate information effectively for publications and presentations.
- Proficiency in the use and application of Infinite Campus.
- Exhibit listening patience caring and empathy when relating to staff and community
- Outstanding oral and written communication with a high degree of accuracy that includes proficiency in creating spreadsheets with embedded links and formulas as well as presentations.
- Skills to organize ideas time materials and space with attention to detail to accomplish goals and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain the strictest confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure/high-stress situations.
- Willingness to work extended hours for attendance at evening district and School Board meetings.
Qualifications
- Hold a Postgraduate Professional Certificate with endorsement in school administration and supervision.
- Five years experience in administration and/or supervisory positions is preferred.
- Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel and members of the community.
- Possess thorough knowledge of school division rules regulations and procedures.
- Possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills including strong written and oral communication abilities as well as ability to effectively present information to the School Board public groups administrators and teachers.
