The Automotive Mechanic performs intermediate level diagnostics repairs and preventative maintenance on a variety of automotive vehicles. Including fuel ignition brakes suspension steering electronic systems and related components.

Job Duties: Performs preventive maintenance of automotive vehicles. Performs diagnosis repair and/or replaces automotive vehicle safety components such as brakes steering stability control and tires. Disassembles automotive vehicles inspects parts for failure and/or wear; repairs replaces or rebuilds parts utilizing specialized tools and precision measuring instruments. Performs diagnosis repair and/or replaces automotive vehicle powertrain components such as engine transmission and transaxles. Assist Auto Technician with complex repairs and provides direction to Mechanic 1 and Auto Service Workers. All other duties assigned within the scope of the classification.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Eighth grade education or equivalent plus three years practical work experience in auto mechanics or vocational technical school and auto related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Requires certification from the Automotive Services Excellence(ASE) as an Auto Maintenance and Light Repair Technician within one year of employment. Maintenance of certification is a condition of employment.

Other:This position requires driving. As such the incumbent must provide a valid drivers license. Regular and Reliable attendance is required.
