Facilities Management & Construction (FMC) manages operates and maintains 55 City-owned buildings throughout the five boroughs working to provide clean safe and energy efficient space for the tenants in these public buildings.

FMC is dedicated to both the daily maintenance of the public buildings managed by Building Services Fire & Life Safety and other critical field staff as well as to long-term renovation and rehabilitation projects which are managed by a dedicated staff of architects engineers and other professional technical experts. FMC also oversees the daily operations of all elevators across the DCAS public buildings portfolio.

We are seeking to hire a supervisor of elevator mechanics whose duties will be in accordance with the current union contract for Local 1 and as specified in the 220 Labor Law to include but not be limited to the following:
- Perform critical tasks and assign work to personnel as needed in relations to all maintenance repair and adjustments of the different types of elevators escalators and conveying systems; may also perform related work.
- Assign and schedule work as needed in relations to the inspection of elevators and escalators and oversee work progress; utilize electrical and mechanical instruments to check the quality of repairs; estimates costs of materials and repairs and requisitions tools and supplies.
- Responsible for the enforcement of safety regulations the inventories of tools and equipment the decision making relative to elevator/escalator work methods and for maintaining and updating the records and reports.
- Will respond to emergencies such as passenger entrapments elevator service problems and/or elevator power failures; also provide rescue measures for each situation.
- Responsible to oversee the inspection maintenance adjustments and repairs of elevators and escalators such as lubricating cleaning and adjusting all components inspecting and repairing doors rails cables SCR drives micro controls and rewiring systems.
- Conduct yearly test of all elevators and escalators; oversee elevator inspections for Cat 1 and Cat 5; clear all ECB and PVT violations (work performed in house).
- Review design project drawings for the upgrade of elevators and escalators; perform inspections and attend job meetings. - Per the Department of Buildings Codes maintain and oversee the logs on performed repairs and for maintenance of elevators escalators dumbwaiters and handicap lifts.
- Assist and oversee preventive maintenance to all elevators escalators dumbwaiters and handicap lifts.
- Oversee and assist the maintenance and repair of electrical/hydraulic (elevators and escalators) oil grease and lubricate equipment change lights repair and adjust cables generators SCR drives microprocessor controls doors etc.
- As needed conduct visual inspections of all equipment and related controls in the Borough and/or as required by the elevator operations unit.

Qualifications :

1. Six years of full-time satisfactory experience acquired within the last ten years as an elevator mechanic including at least one year supervising personnel engaged in the maintenance and repair of elevators; or

2. Not less than five and one-half years of the experience described in 1 above including the one year of supervisory duties plus one of the following:
A) At least 6 months of closely related experience in the repair and maintenance of electrical or electromechanical control systems or electrical hydraulic or mechanical components of the following: escalators drawbridges aircraft rail cars or mechanical doors; or

B) At least 600 hours of training acquired at a trade or technical school or vocational high school or completed post-secondary education approved by a states Department of Education or comparable governmental agency with a major course of study in mechanical electromechanical electrical or electronic technology or closely related field; or

3. One (1) year of permanent service in the title of Elevator Mechanic.

License Requirements
At the time of appointment candidates will be required to possess a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
