St. Thomas More Collegiate is a progressive Blessed Edmund Rice Christian Brother Catholic Independent high school in Burnaby B.C. We are seeking an engaging experienced secondary educator to join our collaborative teaching team. The successful candidate will teach primarily PHE with a secondary load to be determined in either Jr. Mathematics or Jr. Humanities depending on experience and departmental need. Beyond the classroom this teacher is expected to contribute meaningfully to the broader school community through high-quality programming and active involvement in school life.

Physical & Health Education at STMC develops students fitness motor skills and health knowledge through a range of recreational and team activities. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves collaborate take risks and build an appreciation for lifelong healthy living.

Jr. Mathematics at STMC emphasizes the development of mathematically powerful students. Our curriculum focuses on numeracy skills and competencies as well as their practical application in higher education and the workplace. We believe students learn at various rates and have created course offerings that support students at any level in achieving excellence in mathematics.

Jr. Humanities at STMC is a broad and dynamic program that weaves together Social Studies and English. Students explore history geography culture economics law and current events while developing into analytical thinkers cogent writers and confident speakers. Throughout the program students cultivate a sense of responsibility to the communities they belong to local national and global and leave with the rhetorical and critical thinking skills to engage meaningfully with the world.

Preference will be given to applicants with previous relevant secondary school experience and a Bachelors Degree in Education.

Potential candidates must be a member or be in the process of becoming a member of the British Columbia College of Teachers or hold a BC Independent School Teachers Certificate. Letters of application accompanied by a resume and the names of two referees should be received in a timely manner.

The successful applicant will have the following qualifications experiences and abilities:

  • Must hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate or letter of permission
  • Ideally hold a Bachelors degree in Education with a focus in the PHE and Mathematics or Humanities
  • Be familiar with the BC Curriculums use and implementation of proficiency scales
  • Excellent English written communication and presentation skills
  • Understand and demonstrate the need for culturally responsive teaching and learning
  • Use engaging technology to enhance learning
  • Familiar with concepts of UDL and the experience to develop instructional resources and methods to meet diverse student needs
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to build and foster educational growth
  • Create a classroom environment that promotes mutual respect and security to take personal educational risks
  • Foster supportive relationships with students and families
  • Implement a range of authentic learning assessments that provide timely feedback to students and a clear direction for parents
  • Maintain accurate ongoing and complete records of student progress for the purposes of teaching learning and reporting
  • Maintain excellent professionalism in all interactions with colleagues students and parents
  • Be willing to contribute to the co-curricular and cultural life of the school and model the values espoused by Blessed Edmund Rice as articulated in the Essential Elements of an Edmund Rice Christian Brother Education
