Job Summary

Des Moines Public Schools is looking for and accepting applications from dynamic leaders for our vacant Principal position at Woodlawn Education Center for the 26-27 school year.

Woodlawn is a District-Wide Special Program which serves students with significant social emotional behavioral and mental health needs.

The salary range shared below represents the minimum to the mid-point of the salary range. Candidates offered employment will be compensated based on skills work experience and education.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education:Mastersdegree inSchoolAdministration.
  • Work Experience: Three years as a district or building administrator or an associate principal.
  • Licensure or Certification:Administrator license with evaluator approval

  11. Maintainsatisfactoryandharmoniousworkingrelationshipswiththepublicstudents andotheremployees.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Principalserves asaninstructional and administrative leader andis responsible forensuring the academic success and well-being of all by the principles of the Iowa Standards for School Leaders (ISSL) and the districts vision mission andgoals the Principal provides visionary leadership; oversees curriculum instruction assessment and school position requires continuous use of independent judgment. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of students personnel and community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develop communicate and sustain a shared mission vision and core values focused on high-quality education and the academic success and well-being of every student.
  2. Leadculturally responsivepractices that promote inclusive learning environmentsandequitableaccess to educational opportunities resources andsupportsfor all students.
  3. Overseethe implementation ofcurriculum and instructional ongoing feedback coaching and professional development opportunities for staff.
  4. Promotes the effective use of formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction and school improvement toidentify monitor and address disparities in academic outcomes discipline attendance and access to programs.
  5. Collaboratewith school staff families and community partners to address student safety mental health and overall well-being.
  6. Supervise and evaluate teaching staff and other building employees. Encourage leadership development and continuous learning among school personnel.
  7. Foster a collaborative culture focuses on shared responsibility for student success. Support professional learning communities (PLC) and collaborative practices reflective thinking and continuous improvement.
  8. Communicate effectively and transparently with familiesregardingstudent learning school initiatives and expectations.
  9. Managetheoperationsbudget and resources efficiently andresponsibly.
  10. Act ethically and with integrity in all professional responsibilities and compliance with federal state and locallaws;boardpolicies;and district procedures.
  11. Maintain professional learning and growth through professional organizations seminars course work and collaboration.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

CALENDAR: 12 month / 8 Hour Day

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Moves throughout the building to access meetings and information.
  • Remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time during shift.
  • Drive or provide transportation suitable to accommodate responsibilities throughout the district.
